Why doesn't Maxima come with FSTB and RSB pre-installed from the factory?

I have both FSTB and RSB and they make so much difference when going around corners or even U-turns. These are simple metal pieces and if attaching couple of metal pieces can make a noticable difference, why doesn't Maxima came with these pre-installed by the factory? As far as cost goes, Nissan can mass produce them for $5-$10 each! So its really not the price... so I just wonder why cars don't come with these as standard?

That would be nice, but you're assuming that the average Maxima buyer wants that kind of peformance. The average age of a Japanese midsize sedan buyer is about 55. These people want a nice 'comfy' ride. They don't want something harsh and tight.

Also, when a company is trying to cut costs, even a $10 item is game on the chopping block.

Peace.

Don't the 2k0-2k3 have a RSB on them already? I know it does on mine. I'm not sure about the FSTB

Your 2001 SE does not have a factory installed RSB. Sorry.

Yes, there is a front stabilizer bar, and there is a bar inside the rear torsion beam. I wouldn't call that bar in the back an anti-sway bar, though.

Maximas don't get a stock FSTB, however. Only the Sentra SE-R and the 350Z get that from the factory.

Peace.

Yeah, exactly what 01SE02SER said (I'm not sure about the average driver being 55 years old, that's up there) but none-the-less. The Maxima is NOT a sports car. I think some people on here tend to forget that. And I can see why, especially when the Nissan advertisements focus mainly on its HP. I would venture to say that Maxima.org members equal less than 5% of total Maxima owners. If I were in charge of production of the Maxima, even I wouldn't spend more money for 5% of the buyers.

I do see what you guys are saying but my argument is, they should have atleast equipped the SE model with a RSB. I would have gladly paid $50 extra if it was included in the invoice price. They gave us HID's and 'sports suspension', why not RSB!

After I installed my RSB, it made turning so much easier. I almost felt it was a necessity to have an RSB on a big car like our Max... Before, it was bit of a pain to make turns. It added comfort and control (on top of other advantages)...

saving $10 per car is a lot! it adds up like anything. How many 5th gens did they sell? Take that and multiply by 10. Thats how much Nissan would 'lose' if they added it.

And the worst part is, the newer ALTIMAs come with a rsb! I am told it is complete garbage and many altima owners swap them out for aftermarket. (i've seen it done at southwest autoworks)

oh man......nice thread....

why doesn't the maxima come with a turbo? or a supercharger? or tinted windows? or better yet 20" chrome spinners?

it's a family sedan, not a sports car...

Mine wasn't an RSB, it's called a Lateral Link... doesn't look anything like the aftermarket RSBs. I think it hooks between the chassis and the axlebeam.
