2000 Ignition problem

My 2000 recently started having an issue where when I insert the key, it will not turn. It physically will not turn. If I take the key in and out, bang on it, jiggle it, it will eventually turn and start the car. It appears there is something wrong with a tumbler (just my guess) that is causing this problem. Also it is very random when it occurrs. (very frustrating).

I was wondering if anyone else had experienced a similar problem and what you did to correct it. The dealer wants to replace the ignition and rekey the other locks. Is there something else I could try. Any ides would be appreicated.

Thanks...

Do you jiggle the steering wheel too? Maybe the lock needs to be lubed? Try Graphite dry lube?

Sometimes you have turn the steering wheel left or right a little and jiggle the wheel, then the key will turn.
