Slow to shift

I was getting on the tollway today at about 9 a.m. and it was about 60 degrees or so outside and when i was merging the auto tranny was slow to shift at around 5-6k rpm so i think the tranny wasnt warmed up b/c when i do it when the car is warmed up it doesnt do this...has anyone else had the same problem with a cold tranny?
