Blue smoke when starting engine

Posted another thread that someone thought may have been answered, but didn't know the reason why. Second time in two days starting 2k2 and a big puff of blue smoke comes out the exhaust. It goes away after a few seconds. The car is new to me with 45K miles. What is the problem?

I agree...but why would it happen just when starting. Anyone one else had the problem?

Probably put too much oil in the last oil change. Drain out 1/8-1/4 quart and you should be fine.

usually this happens b/c oil sitting in the head leaks down through the valve seals and settles in the cylinder

Your car has an internal problem and it's burning oil. Reason could be valve stem seal problem, worn piston rings, or or piston blow by.
