Looks like I was on Route 2 in Massachusetts today and a small rock hit the windshield on my 2000 maxima. I'm going to the dealer to get it replaced but I'm wondering if there is difference between an OEM windshield and one supplied by Nissan.

If it's a small chip, I would just fix it so the damaged area doesn't spread. I don't think you can convince the dealer to replace it under warranty.

Use your insurance, that's what it is for. Pay your deductable and have an outside shop install the Nissan
part number. The dealer will do this also as they are
not in the bussiness of installing windows.
If you have a decent insurance co. they shouldn't raise
your rates.
I've done this before with no problems with PEMCO.

yeah that's the part that sucks. I've got Allstate in NY and they have a $500 deductable on cracked windshields. Now does anyone know the nissan part number for the 2000 Maxima windshield?

I would double check with your agent. I too have Allstate and I learned that there is no deductible on windshields on my policy. I have a 250 on everything else. They wont flat out tell you that you can get it replaced with no out of pocket. I would just ask him to be sure.

hate to be an *** but on page 5 of the warranty manual...

it says on the second column last bullet point at the top under "what is not covered"

"Glass breakage, unless resulting from defects in material or workmanship."

Gonna have a hard time proving inferior materials or workmanship! Good luck if your gonna go this route and I hope you have good service manager. if not bend over and take it like a man, b/c they're gonna screw you.

Sorry to be negative but nissan is not on my good side right now for warranty service or lack thereof.

Good luck
