Just thought I would pass this along with summer around the corner. With two parts from Home Depot, make a small heat shield and extended the tubing to bring the outside air closer to the intake. Do you think this will do much? Guess it can't hurt.

In the Dryer duct section..one 4 inch elbow

Next to it, in the air duct section...4 inch collar.(flat sheet of metal with a hole in the center to pass the tube through)

What I did is cut the collar down to fit the spot, then bent it at the bottem and bolted it to one of the holes that the original air box was bolted to. The elbow tube passes through the collar and slips over the end of the scoop coming from the front of the car. (you have to remove the loose connector on it to allow the home depot tube to slip over)

Then painted it black, using high heat spray paint (for grills), also form home depot.

I them place some weather striping around the heat shield to prevent cuts from the sharp metal edge.

Easy!

i dont think that shield is really going to block any heat. and it has to be a material that wont heat up.
you really need something like this

K&N doesnt make one for us, i just used that pic to show that you need something that really blocks heat.

You're right. I looked around to buy one like on the K&N set up, but couldn't find anyone that would sell just the heat shield. They do sell a piece of curved metal that goes on top of the filter, but it didn't seem functional

Even if my shield doesn't do much to block heat, it is still needed to support the tube.

There is no law that says that you cannot take it off. Most people have left it on just to get more air in. I am going to leave mine on when my Berk gets here next week.

That is really a cool idea, props to you. Am I missing the heat shield?
Would you take more detailed pics please.

Ok, I'll take more pics but I won't be able until tomorrow (sorry!)

To PearlWhtMaX2000, I left the front air scoop in since I didn't want to have to move the temp. sensor, and I was planning to add the tube to direct air to the Berk intake. Where did you move the temp sensor to?

Youd probably want something to cover the midpipe too. Exhaust wrap perhaps?

It gets really hot after a while of running the engine...and theres not point in letting in cooler air through the cone, when it still heats up after, due to the aluminum midpipe (for the berk).

The longish metal thing, in these pics it's the part with the K&N sticker on it.

Its easy. In dryer section, 4 inch diameter 90 degree elbow. And to the section to the left (same isle) a collar (flat piece of aluminun with a 4 inch hole in the middle.) You have to cut the collar to make it narrower to fit; its too wide as is.

Just attact the elbow to the end of the orignial scoop (Very first section of the orginal intake on the front of the car), pass the other end of the elbow through the collar, then bolt the bottom of the collar to one of the open holes the original intake used, and your done!

The fouth pic down has the best view

i was thinking about another way.

what if i cut a hole in the bottom plastic panel on the bottom of the car and run the tubing up from there?

There's an org member that did this. Had it angled a little bit at the bottom so more air would come up while driving..spray painted it black also so it's not even noticeable.

just did this mod today, it kinda felt like it was restricting air flow, didn't seem to have the acceleration it had before i put the tube on. oh well, i'll just return the parts.
