Sticky Gas Pedal

I am having a little trouble with my gas pedal on and off. It gets "sticky" and I'd have to smash it to get it to repond, and when I do that, it's a fairly uncomforatable neck-jerking experience. At first I thought it was due to the cold in the winter, but now that the weather is warming up, it's still doing it. It happens on and off, but so far I haven't detected a pattern as to when it happens.

Does anyone else have this problem? Possible causes? Solutions?

PLEASE HELP!!

Never seen or heard of this being an issue. Id start by looking at the throttle and cruise cable near the Throttle Body. Make sure nothing is kinked or causing issues there. Get someone or something to hold the throttle open and see if the cable moves in and out with ease for the throttle pedal cable. Also can try to lube it with some teflon based spray if it is sticky.

Worst case replace the throttle cable. But Id really doubt its bad unless truly one of the strangs on the cable broke and is "dragging" against the inside of the cable.

Please don't replace any parts. A simple throttle body cleaning will probably do. $20 if you have it done at an independent shop, and much cheaper if you have 30 minutes and a can of spray cleaner from an auto parts store.

What does TB cleaner have to do with a sticky gas pedal? Dont take it the wrong way, but all that does is clean the carbon and oil buildup inside the TB and the butterfly valve. That is not going to solve "sticky" pedal feel. That is definetely caused by something kinking the line.

For the technically no-so-inclined, please describe where the cables and the throttle body are. Thanks.

Are you serious? The OP has a 2000, which was before drive-by-wire. I also have a 2000, and had a sticky gas pedal. The throttle plate was sticking. I cleaned the throttle body, and the problem is gone.

Well TB is not a lubricant in any form. Even if it did clean the gunk, it should't have solved the problem.

BTW, what is an OP?

I don't understand why you keep insisting on this. Carbon buildup in the throttle body prevents butterfly from opening so you feel sticky gas pedal.

Also tighten the cable a little bit. It must be quite loose.

Have you looked at the butterfly lately? If not look again and then tell me how much carbon its going to take to jam it up and how its possible. The flap opens counter clockwise. That makes it litterally impossible for buildup to jam the flap up that bad. If it did, you got other major problems like how the carbon got there to begin with.

Well, seems like there are a couple of opposing theories out there on this issue. I'd like to just try something, anything that might make the problem go away. So where are the Throttle body and the cable? Please describe.

Craig2kGLE is correct. I had the EXACT same problem in my 2000 Quest. My shop cleaned off the carbon buildup and lubricated the TB. It has NOT been a problem since.

If you want to be certain, apply the throttle at the throttle body itself (not the accelerator pedal). If it still sticks then, that's probably your problem as well.

Peace.

http://www.turbofedmax.com/fullpics/...n/Dsc00934.jpg Throttle Body is all the way at the top where you see the blue silicone coupler. You obviously wont have this setup with the turbo piping, but gives you an idea. The cables controlling the TB are on the left of the throttle body. One for the gas pedal, the other for the cruise actuator.

I can't believe this conversation is still going. The next time you're at your friendly neighborhood Nissan dealer, tell them your theory about how carbon buildup can't make a gas pedal stick. Then come back and report the results.

It happened on my 2k maxima, our 98 truck, and 2 cars I had before that. Throttle body cleaning fixed EVERY ONE without exception.
