2k2 stock single cd ERROR display

Hello all,
I tried searching the forum for anything remote to the problem I'm having and no luck. I have a 2K2 stock radio cd player (single cd) I'm getting a message displayed on the lcd "CD F3 ERR " when I attempt to load a CD. I have confirmed there is no CD stuck inside the unit. Has anyone experienced this problem, and if so, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mac

Hey BioMAX

Thanks for the reply. My warranty for the initial 3yr/36k is up, so I don't think that will be an option I can pursue. Do you recall what they identified as the problem when you took your's in?

Thanks again

Mac

they told me there was a CD already in there and I tried to put another in it that's what caused the problem. but i know that I already took out the CD before I tried to put another one in it. Its just bunch of BS. Alot of us already had the CD player replaced b/c its a piece of shiat.
I think one of the problem is that CD player have hard time reading the disc when its cold

Same thing happened to me and I was out of warranty. Yanked it and installed mp3 player. Your choices are let the dealer lube you up or replace. It will probably cost about the same. . . .

How much does it cost to put a decent MP3 player in the Max(player+installation)? How does it look? Just curious becuase the stock unit is a large piece.

I've still got my factory hu if you want a like-replacement. PM if interested. You're probably gonna spend around $400 on an mp3 head unit+installation.

Mine works fine. This would be a main option for me if mine went and I was out of warranty.

Hey Cat.

Thanks for the reply, can you send a pic. of your old unit, is it in good condition, and last but not least $$$

I'm wondering if you have the same type unit as I have?

Thanks,

Mac

Here's a sample pic of what the unit looks like (I know it's big, but you get the idea). Besides being Bose and having cd changer controls, the HU looks just like this. Check your PM.

I had this happen on my '02. I am not sure about your instance, but mine was pretty wierd. It seemed like the CD would be off track whenever you inserted a new one. The only solution for that is to have the dealer replace your radio. Mine got replaced for free since I was under 36,000 miles when it happened. However, check your part number carefully on the cassette door. If your number is C090, that means your unit is made by Clarion. If the number starts with a P, it's a Pioneer.
Chances are, you have the Clarion unit.

appears this is a common problem with the stock non-Bose HU. This happened to me a few months back. Mine had the same message error and wouldn't accept CDs. Luckily I was still under warranty and it was repaired, but not replaced.

Getting an aftermarket HU is probably your best bet. I'll keep mine stock until its completely shot, it sounds decent with the Pioneer speakers and sub I installed.
