Spark plugs...need some help

i got my maxima with 74k miles about a month ago. now i got 75k. i took out one of the spark plugs and it looked fine. but i dont think they were ever changed.

should i change them if they look ok? and which ones to get for 2000 maxima se?

will it run better if i will (i mean noticable difference)?

will it bad bad for the car if i dont change them?

and why im reluctent to do it is because the front 3 look simple, but i cant even see the back 3 plugs. is it as much of a pain to change the plugs on a 2000 as it looks?

You can get a 6-pack of new ones from www.courtesyparts.com for about $60 - OEM replacements are fine, unless you've got a real reason for anything different.

It's a large pain in the ***** to change the rear ones. Your back/legs may hurt, but it's not that big of a deal....just don't drop anything back there, best to make sure you've got a magnetic rod available just in case

Well it is a pain but not as bad as the Lumina from 1994. you actually had to uncrewed the engine mounts.

Does anybody know where can I buy the iridium plugs? and for how $$$$

Ive changed the plugs on mine about 4times now, its not that bad, takes about 1hr if you taking your time. The rear ones are not that bad. You dont have to take the manifold off. If anything may want to remove the bracket that holds the throttle and cruise cable near the TB. But all you need to do is remove the 10mm bolt that holds the coilpack down, for the rear use a magnetic rod to grab the bolt out. Then remove the coilpack and remove the plug.

Gap them at .044" for stock.

You can get magnetic inserts for your sockets at Sears, this will aid in the rear plugs. Also be sure to use the dielectric grease on the spark plug boot.

I replaced the ones in our 2000 SE 5spd with BKR5E-11's and it fixed a small studder the car developed at 3300 and 3600rpm.

I also have 70k on a 2000. The plugs have never been changed and the car runs great. Do I need to change them? If I do, what other routine maintenance should I do now with 70k. The car runs great.

If it runs fine, I wouldnt change it.

If you want to see your engine's condition, just take out a plug and see if it is running rich or lean or having any oil on it.

What maintenance have you done before 70k?

silicon electrical grease will keep water out and increase conductivity. I thought this is for cars with spark plug wires but not for us.....

i have changed them 6 times. takes about 1/2 an hour. there is a write-up in the how-2 section. be careful not to pull the rear coils by the connecting wires. always get them by the boot..

I hope you meant 0.084 inch of gap. You sure the car was running fine? the engine didnt miss or anything?

nissan recommended to have those plugs replaced at 70k IIRC. you already passed it for 40k, it doesnt surprised me that the plug gap got bigger.
