It seems to me like the red top battery has the post on the wrong side or to much towards the front wouldn't the Optima Model 34R Orange Top Reverse Post Battery be a better fit for our cars? Thanks for the info I have to replace my battery today stating to crank really slow. If you know the # I should get please post. Also going to change my plugs today any suggestion on what brand I should use. Thanks luis

I tried putting in a spare Optima red top I had lying around and it did not fit properly on the positive side. The post needs to be moved out about 5mm to fit. Some have been able to really stretch it and get it to fit but I didn't feel that it was good solution so I ended up buying a cheap $50 battery.

I spoke with the Optima rep and they told me that the orange top would fit because the posts are further out towards the edge. Email them or call them to get the correct part number.

if you get the 35/75 red top you wont have a problem. even the orange top has the terminals that are too far in along with the 34 red top. here is a great site to get the optima batteries:

I believe the correct model number is 75/35 (not 35/75).

At tna-sports.com they list the 75/35 and a "Group 35" (aka SC35R?) which has the terminals on the back corners rather than in the middle. It looks to me like the Group 35 would be optimal, since it would require no "stetching" of cable, so long as you don't need dual posts. ???

Edit: The picture of the Group 35 battery at www.optimabatteries.com shows the posts in the middle, like the 75/35, but it also shows the negative terminal on the LEFT rather than the right. And yet, the "Battery Search" shows both the 75/35 and the Red35 as fitting the 4th Gen Maximas.

Edit 2: This website is foobar. This company sells batteries online and yet isn't competent to match the right picture with each battery. At least four of them are wrong.

75/35 is correct. That's what I have (just like redstradic). It has dual posts.

The only difference I can see between the 75/35 and the 35 is that the 75/35 has dual posts and the 35 has single posts. Since I drive a Nissan and not a GM product, I don't know why I would need the side posts. For a stereo hookup maybe, but mine's already configured to tie into the positive terminal and I don't see any advantage in reconfiguring it.

I know, I know, why not just buy the 75/35 since it's not any more expensive, and we KNOW it fits. I just like having ALL the facts and it bugs me when things just "don't add up", like one site showing a 35 with the negative post on the right, and another showing it on the left.

Yeah, it does seem confusing. As mentioned, maybe some of the sites have incorrect info or pics. I got mine at Auto zone so I could actually see what I was buying. Here's my pics....

OT, but is that the Stillen battery tie down? Looks nice, especially if you have some bling elsewhere in the engine bay.

I sent a bunch of emails, asking different sites why they seem to have the wrong pictures on products.

Although I know the 75/35 (or is it the 75/25) works, I'd rather have the 35 (or is it the 25), which simply seems to be a single-post version of the same battery. Same CCA, same dimensions, and same weight, just without the side posts.

One other thing, I found great prices on Optima batteries at Remy Battery. About $91 shipped for a 75/35-925 or a 35-925/25-925.

It's a Stillen knockoff. Same shape and design, but without the logo. There was a GD about a year ago for them. Check my homepage for a bit of bling in my engine bay. I've polished a bunch of stuff.

I'm confused, on the tna-sport site for the 2000 I30 it suggest the 34R orange top. Seems the posts would be in the similar spot as the OEM battery. (If the battery in the pciture is rotated) Wouldn't the 34R also be a better fit in the Max? Are you saying that the posts are too far in the battery?

The 34R is "backwards", so would have to be turned 180 degrees to put the negative post on the "right" side, and it appears to me that the positive terminal would have to be replaced with a longer one in order to reach the post, which is located more "inboard" than on the stock battery.

That's it. That (Optima Group 35 Red Top battery) looks to be the "best fit" battery for the Maxima, for those who do not need dual posts, and do not need a deep-cycle (Yellow Top) battery. The "best fit" Red Top dual post model would be the 75/35.

FYI, that (eBay price of $108.64) is far from the best price I have seen on that battery. For example, Remy Battery has it for $73.45 and their shipping prices are fair. tna-sports sells it for $99.95 including shipping.

Edit: Oops, spoke too soon. Remy is now $84.95. For me, shipping would be $14.49, and they add another $1.50 "Handling Cost," bringing the total to $100.94.
