Just purchased a Grey Lustre Grey 2k1 Maxima SE. I didn't think that, in the long run, the 20th Anniversary car is worth the extra money.
Now, i have a question: how do you recommend me taking care of this car? Meguiar makes so many different cleaners/wax, which do I use?

The Zaino stuff looks to be a little bit on the pricy side. what's the diff between that ant the meguiar's?

zaino's the way to go

..its the only stuff that doesnt have oils or abrasives in it.
I was skeptical about price too, especially after having to add about 45% to the dollar for Canadian exchange rate, but given that my car is brand new too, I figured "f#@k the rest, buy the best." Hey...it's a NEW car. The Zaino treatment made the car look shinier and better than original showroom. totally awesome )...and getting the 100% cotton towels to wash and wipe with, as recommended by the Zaino folks, (any made in U.S.A towel from any store)...really made a difference in the process too!! It's worth the extra to treat your Maxima nicely!

Clean Car

I've washed my 2000 every weekend since I've bought it. Ok, I'm a clean freak.

I use Meguiar's "Gold Glass" car wash. I use a chamois to dry. I bought a nice, soft sponge for the washing. Don't get one of those $0.50 ones...

To clean those nice 17" rims, I take small amount of clean water and extra Gold Class car wash liquid soap in a bucket. I dunk a soft cloth in to get it wet...almost to were the rag is slimy feeling after dunking in the bucket due to higher content of car wash. This breaks up the brake dust and crud pretty easily by hand. More time consuming to do it this way but you know you get every nook and cranny. I don't use any of those supposed wheel cleaners that claim to remove brake dust and road grime. Too risky for the rims.

I don't use any material which "could be" abrasive, such as a cheap towel for drying or a sponge which collects stuff. Use soft stuff which can be cleaned afterwards.

I have not waxed yet, but I have had good success with 3M products. They are sometimes hard to find, though. I've heard good stuff about Zoixmal (sp), or something like that.

Have fun and keep it clean!

Congratulations on the new car. As for the Meguiars stuff, use their Mirror Glaze line of products. They come in tan bottles and are sold at many automotive stores. Since you just bought your car, all you would really want to do right now is put a coat of wax on it. Use Meguiars #26 hi-tech yellow wax. Later on after maybe a few months, polish it using Meguiars #7 Show car glaze and then wax it with #26. From then on, polish maybe every other time you wax or whenever you need it. The #26 wax should last 2 months at most, but try to wax at least once a month. It doesn't last as long as Zaino since it's not synthetic, but I have had good results with Meguiars.

thanks

thanks for all the suggestions! the meguiar's #26 is about $7.99, which isn't too bad. how does this differ from the meguiar's car wax that comes w/ an applicator?
also, i have some armor all car wash here from my old car, is this stuff any good?

The wax that comes with the applicator is the Gold Class wax I think. It is a cleaner/wax that gives you a polish + wax in one step rather than doing it separately. The #26 wax is nothing but carnauba wax. It has no other cleaners in it. Since your car is new, just use the #26 wax for the time being. As for car soap, any car soap should work fine. Just dont use dish detergent

My car is still in the lot right now as i need to change my insurance coverage from liability only to full coverage.
so, while it is technically my car, i have yet to drive it.

Same boat

I just purchased a 2k1 Maxima GLE in Sterling Mist. Sunroof w/deflector, CD changer, splash guards, and floor mats, $25,900. Anyone know the invoice on this to tell me if I got a good deal or not?

Anyway, I just want to say that I'm in the same boat as you... I've got the loan, the trade-in, and everything taken care of. DAMN INSURANCE!!!

Hopefully I'll be able to drive it home later today (it's 2 AM here in MA).

About to post about a Bose system question as a new topic.
