VQ35 aftermarket cams in a VQ30 possible? Why not?
#5
As far as I know, that just changes the cam orientation to start opening/closing valves sooner or later. However, because of that additional range, its profile(lift/duration) would probably be waaay off. That and the VQ35s added displacement and higher port angle heads.
Just wondering whether it's possible or not, since I really don't know. Hoping one of the engine gurus will chime in here.

U have to machine the sprocket attachement point on the 3.5L cam vs the 3.0L. The cam sprockets are totally diff. The cam will fit in the head with no problem. I've done Nismo R-Tune Cams already.... comparing em to stock 3.0L cams they look identical but the sprocket face is diff. And NO I do not have any cams in my Maxima. It was someone elses car I was working on.

SR20DEN, the cam install is pretty EZ if U done SR20 cams in the past. Problem is- U need to take the engine front cover off- unlike on the SR20s where U are able to slip the cams out. I'm sure U know what ur getting into here. Unless ya have someone install em for ya then dissregard my post I'm getting slow with my Maxima mods with 3 SR20DE powered cars layn around right now ! So cams on my VQ will have to wait- plus the 3.0L cams only gain bout 15WHP on the K motor according to JWT. Which don't justiffy my labor and $$$ put into the motor to gain that 15WHP.

Oooo trust me I know its nothing like a SR install, I've done cams in bout hour also in a SR20. VQ is totally diff. Lemme tell ya how I do em.... I've done a 350Z which is somewhat similar. Remove the intake manifold- top section, remove the timing cover, set engine at TDC, remove the big chain, then proceed to relief tension on the 2 tensioners on the 2 little chains for the cams. VQ has 3 chains on it. And has 3 or 4 tensioners- one on each little chain and I think 2 on the big chain if I remember correctly. Then remove the valve covers... I mean I don't wanna be like do this diss and that. I think U know what I'm trying to say... its not that hard. I think the hardest part of the install is getting the front cover off- on a 350Z U gotta drop down the oil pan to get to the bolts that go through the upper oil pan- just like on a SR20. I wouldn't even try doing these with no FSM. Good luck let us know how it turns out. I took my intake off my Maxima one time already and don't plan on doing it again. Otherwise U are like half way down to doing the cams when the intake is off the K motor. Lemme know if U need any help.

You're beating a dead horse here. I have already removed and installed another VQ35 in this car as well as removed the timing chain assembly off the one sitting on the engine stand.
A 350Z install is actually a little easier than a Maxima because you have more room to work with and you dont have to remove the main engine mount.
And yes I know exactly what Im getting into here if I get cams. I work on Kroutwagons for a living.
Perhaps I am misreading the context of what you've written but it appears you're trying to drop some knowlege on me for some reason.
