maintenance for a 5th gen...plz read!!!

i was just wondering what kind of maintenace you guys get done for your 5th gens. I went to the dealer and got an oil change today. I saw that they have those mileage checks that cost $100-$400 and so on. I am at 44,000 miles and i have gotten the 7500 mile check, oil changes every 4-5 thousand miles, AT flush and coolant change at 30,000 miles and then oil changes up until now. I am debating whether thos mileage checks are worth the money or if they are necessary? Have any of you guys ever gotten one???? I see how it says..."inspect" this and that so i wasnt sure if it was worth it. I have changed a lot of stuff on my car so i dont know if they would "inspect" it to well...lol....

Hey Rob,
I never have done those checks (on my 01 or 03 Max or any car I have had). It might be wise to check your brakes and change brake fluid to keep the corrosion down (ABS is really expensive). Change the 2 belts and sparkplugs if you want to be safe.
Other than that it is a waste of money IMHO

you should take a closer look at those $300+ services.

its mostly just check this and that, refill this and that. Most of it is a waste of money. Just take the list and mark off the things you can do yourself and do the other things such as coolant change, AT flush separately.

for my dealership, the $400 doesn't even include fuel injection service, wheel balancing, AT flush (only drain and refill)... not worth it.

i don't believe we have a timing belt that requires changing. we have a timing chain instead, maintenance free

spark plugs are recommended 5 yr/100,000 miles. But i'd do them 3 yr/50k miles since they are so cheap

Follow what's in your owners manual NOT what the dealer says. Most of what's in the owners manual adds up to simply changing oil every 3K, Coolant every 2 years, Trans fluid every 30K, and keep an eye on everything else and replace as needed. That's it.
