Worse Smell To Come From A Car

IM SO ****ING SICK OF COMING TO A STOP AT A LIGHT AND SMELLING ROTTEN EGGS. I have talked to a Nissan tech and he told me that means the converter is doing its job, but i dont smell any other DECENT car doing that yet alone a car that isnt more than 4 years old. I dont always get this, its weird, almost like it only happens at night, whether its warm out or cold. I use only premium 93, and use different stations. I know you guys are Nissan techs but maybe one of you have been as smelly as i am right now lol.

thanks in advance

Brandon

Nothing is more sickening then a burnt clutch. Not only does it smell terrible and linger around for a while it still haunts me two years later. Then the massive bill that Nissan threw at me to replace it, $2000 that my parents made me pay bc they thought it would mess up my warranty. It's the smell of a problem and a cost.

I have an '04 SL and I'm experiencing the same rotten egg smell. Yet I can only smell it when I run the a/c while pushing my car farely hard. If I turn the a/c off or if it was already off I never smell it, but as soon as the a/c comes on I smell it. A friend of mine also has a 2000 SE like you and is having the same problem. If you find/fix the problem please post.

Yeah, my 2003 4Runner does the same exact thing. If I have my windows open and I punch it or even just push it hard, I smell the worst rotten egg smell ever. I took it over to Toyota and of course they said, yeah, the catalytic converter is doing its job, it is just working harder and emitting more "gasses" when you floor it. I say bull s%*t. Just never floor the car...ha

It sounds more like the catalytic converter is FAILING to me... if it was working properly, with the precats and main cat, the extra unburned hydrocarbons should be converted to CO2/H2O.

have your O2 sensor checked....I have owned several cars that emit this rotten egg smell and it has to do with the O2 sensor being faulty so all the fuel is not getting burned. Once O2 sensor is replaced, the smell goes away. Also happened on my wife's old Jetta (which was

So bad o2 sensor or bad converter or is this just regular? I just replaced an o2 sensor, the converter is covered under warranty but i dont want to pay for the diagnosis if its not that. OR could this be regular seeing that an 04 and 03 both exibit this problem?

thanks alot for replies though

How long do O2 sensors last? I've smelled rotten eggs a couple times, wasn't sure if it was coming from my car or somebody else's... mine has 63K on it. Do you usually have to replace the upstream sensors only, or is it good practice to replace the downstream sensors too?
