Tokico Illumina owners step in

I had the Illuminas installed with Maxspeeds for about 1000 miles now. I was driving around today and heard a weird come from the rear. I never heard this before so it caught my attention. When the strut compresses, I hear a squeeking noise from the right rear strut. I also hear something knocking or rattling whenever I hit bumps (no its not the Blose sub rattle cause that crap ain't working). Has anyone else had this problem? If you do/did, please post here so I can contact Tokico and tell them about the problems. TIA.

When I installed my maxspeeds I had a similar squeak/ I first checked to make sure the strut bolts were tight and that helped a little. The rest of the squeaking went away over the next few weeks. I guess it was the springs breaking in?

Did you install the rubber spring covers at the top of the spring?

What spring covers at the top? I know there were spring isolators installed at the bottom of the strut. I think I'm going to call the mechanic who installed the struts and see what he says.

My guess is the spring is rubbing against the bottom of the perch. If the mechanic didn't use any kind of adhesive to stick the spring isolator to the spring, the isolator can slide and expose the end of the spring. This can lead to metal on metal contact with the end of the spring and the perch. Easy fix. Remove the strut. Compress the spring. Reseat spring and isolator. Reinstall. Instructions on my page.

not sure about the squeeking but as far as the rattling goes... remember that your springs will settle down after a little while and you may need to re-tighten the top locking nut

Yeah mine made a squeaking sound too on the right rear. It took them about a month to stop.

Not a popping. It makes the sound whenever I hit a bump and it sounds like something is hitting somewhere.

It's not a high pitch squeaky sound right?

I get sound from rear when I go over bump sometimes. I'm thinking it's the bumpstop.
