change clock light

I coulda sworn I read about someone changing the color of their clock...something about putting red file over the digital display to turn it white and either leaving it like that or placing another film over it for the color you want...does anyone know how to do this or where the writeup is? I dont necessarily need to know how to remove clock, just what type of material im supposed to use...I think I remember enough about the thread to take it off....

Also, since I guess I didnt use a clear subject in one of my other thread...anyone get the cruise control to stay on, or is this impossible in 01's?

Thank you all for your help

ok well it seems I found the place, but its for a 4th gen...so my next question...I assume the clock uses bulbs/LEDs or whatever....so how do I replace that...same as the cruise control, If noone has any answers its all good...just seems like this would be the last non-large-money cost if it could be done.

I took it apart and it looked like a liquid crystal and I couldn't see any way of doing it.

Yes, you can change the color of the clock by using a material called "cellophane paper". It comes in different colors and it can be found at Party stores. Just place this over the display of the clock. For example, if you buy the color magenta or red, the output of the color of the clock will be "white". Experiment with different colors to give you the output of the color you want to achieve. The clock does not operate on LED's, it is an LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). So, the only way to change the overall color is to change the color of the LCD. But, the cellophane paper is a cheaper mod with almost the same result.

thats what i did. changed mine to blue. also changed radio and climate control to match. and since the clock is a little darker especially when it dims when the headlights are on..i cut the green wire going to the clock. now it doesnt dim.

if i understand correctly, you first use red cellophane to turn the display white, then choose you color carefully because the more layers of cellophane you put on the darker and unreadable it becomes...but after turning it white, put another layer of cellophane for the color you want...Im definitely gonna have to try it out on all my LEDs now...cutting the green wire? are there any drawbacks? or does it just not dim anymore?

How do you get the cellophane to adhere to the LCD w/o wrinkles? Or did you did you put it on the backside of the window?

well, going by what the how to said...course this was for 4th gen...it goes on the backside of the window. But I cant figure out how to remove the thing...i thought it just pops off, but when I stick a knife under the bottom of it to pry it off, I cant get the knife in correctly...It sits on top of my dash and has the little security light also...any info on how to pry it off would be appreciated.

I think soonerfan used clear plastic sheets (overhead transparency sheets) and colored them blue with a sharpie.....I don't think he used cellophane.

i did use overhead transparency sheets and i used a sharpie to make it blue. stuck it between the display and the cover.
to remove clock, stick your fingers on the top lip. right above the display. it pops right out

No problem with the color, but my clock readout looks WAY to dim. It's MUCH dimmer than the stereo display. Anyone know of this problem or how to remedy?

well i currently put red on it, and granted I guess thats LED white, looks a little bluish to me, but its cool...I do agree the clock looks very dim, I guess this is normal...how about this question...for those that have done this...Obviously you cant remove the window since this contains the LED stuff (couldnt find a way to remove it other than cutting the silver connectors and didnt wanna do that) so Im assuming everyone is putting it in front of this and against the screen (the screen is what you actually see in your car - its black has H, M, Security written on it)...Ok, so what I did was I put the red cellophane in the black case and the put the LED in that and closed it (made sure the paper was in the right place also)...I think some people are taping it against the LED window, but I would need some verification on this...because im sure the reason its dim is that the LED isnt flush up against the paper, so it refracts a little...is anyone taping the paper or whatever the use to the LED window as I think this would explain the dimness.
