Removal of stearing wheel controls?

I was wondering if it is possible to remove the BOSE HU stearing wheel controls off of the stearing wheel on a 2k1 max? Or has any body ever done it before?

Why would you want to remove these controls? If you bought an aftermarket H.U. you can get something to make those controls work again. I'm not too familiar with 2K1 maximas, but by grounding a wire on 2K2s you can get the trip odometer back.

Yes Colonel you are correct. Have somebody who does not use them any more but he does not know how to take them off. If he can get them off I am going to send him my plastic cover off of my 2k so that it would be just like they where never there. If anybody out there doesnt use there stearing wheel controls and can get them off let me know I will buy them.

There are two little circular tab covers behind the actual wheel of the steering wheel. One is behind the wheel remote and the other behind the cruise control. Uncover those and you will see two "tamperproof torx" screws. You will need a T30 size screw bit to remove them. They can be found at lowes. Bosch brand for like 8 bux (i think it will come in a set of like 5 different screws). Unscrew them and the whole center part of the steering wheel will come off. Under it you will see two screws holding the remote in place. They are regular philips. Unscrew that and voila youre done.

1_ How do i know if i have the wireing is preinstalled on my car?

2_ if one does not apply what kind of wire i need to get to do it my self?

Any one have write-up on this or at least pics of the wire i need ,or any link.

Wildmanal,

Do you know which wire it is that u have to ground to get those controls to work again? I have an aftermarket HU and I miss those controls.

You can do this? Where have I been? I always thought my steering wheel looked strange with just the cruise control on one side and nothing on the other. Where did you get yours?
