Another Newbie Joins The Org!

Well, I've been lurking for a bit now, and finally decided to write...

I bought my first Max last week, a 2003 GLE. I LOVE it (but you all know that feeling already, I guess)! I've been saving a couple of questions just for this moment, so that this is not just a "pat on the back" post.

1. Is it ok to use the automatic tranny as a manual, meaning launch in 1st, shift to 2nd, and finally to 3rd or "4th"? I'm not going to be doing this ALL the time, but every once in a while it would be neat, specially if I want to hold 2nd.

2. What's the difference between my engine and the Gen6 engine? I believe the 2003 engine puts out 255hp, while the 2004 engine puts out closer to 300hp. Can we "mod" our engine with Gen6 parts to get better performance?

3. Is the headlight bulb listed in the FAQ (PIAA Super Plasma H4, H-76) the small, white light above the amber turnsignal, or the HID light?

Well, thanks!

welcome to the org

1. its ok to use the auto tranny shifter like that. its ideal for the quick race.

2. your engine is rated as having 255hp where as the 6th gen max is rated at 265. yours is quicker however due to it being lighter.

3. a PIAA H4 bulb is a driving light people use in their highbeams.it is not the HID bulb...someone else can better answer this question though.

enjoy the max

welcome....
auto shifter is ok to manually shift when at the track but I wouldn't do it as a regular thing....

2. What you really need is the VQ30. Tell you what, you can have mine and I'll take the VQ35 off your hands.

3. Be careful so you're not the first HID theft in PR!

Congrats and welcome to the .org. Some good questions and per #3, you're doing the right thing, checking the FAQ's first.
Those will provide a lot of useful information. One of the best Stickies is the "How-To's" Make sure you check that one out for future mods.
Welcome.

welcome to the org..
1. i wouldnt manual shift ... those gears are "reserved" for low speed high torque situations
2. take your time modding your car .. it should be a hobby not a priority

and good luck

Thanks for all the replies guys! Question though...

There are four lights on each "pod": low beam (hid), high beam, amber turn signal, white bulb thingie.

That PIAA H4 bulb, does it fit the small white light?
