I have my sights on a 2002 Maxima SE auto for my wife. I was just wondering what are some of the things to look out for when getting this car (probably 50-60k miles on it) . Are there any tranny problems or any other major things I should be aware of before getting this particular year with this many miles on it? Any help would be cool.

Not sure where you're from, but headlight theft is an issue in NYC, Jersey, and Miami.

If it has cheap aftermarket heated seat switches and aftermarket leather, it was almost certainly a rental.

If it still has original potenza tires you would really want to replace them, just a safety issue. Also run all recalls.

I'm in Jersey so that headlight thing does bother me a lot. My Wife's work is a secured parking garage so that should be much of an issue daily. I guess I'll have to give her my car when she wants to go to the mall

definately don't want to get a rental thanks for the heads up on that.

Jason, how much you asking?

Kevin - I hate to say it, but if you're in Northern Jersey you may want to steer clear of an '02-'03. If you search around on here you'll find plenty of people in Jersey have had their HIDs stolen more than once. There is an anti-theft kit, but since many thieves still try the damage to your car will be significant (fenders and bumpers). You could put '00-'01 headlights in, or just consider an '01 instead.

Here's an article: http://consumeraffairs.com/automotiv...an_max_lt.html

Just a heads up. Many in Jersey have made themselves miserable trying to avoid parking their cars in public.

darn,

I hate the fact the the heald theft is such a big problem here in NJ. My wife works more along the PA side of NJ so maybe its not to bad there. I really like the 2002 over the 2001, but I will hate the aggravation if my lights get stolen. Anti-theft kit any good ?
