Scary drive because of diamond plate mat...

Hey guys, today I went to do some shopping, on the access ramp of the highway I punch it to match highway vehicul speed when I merge to the first lane and then left the gas pedal to find out that the gas pedal is stock to the floor and the engine is screaming, after 10-15 second I'm running 150Kph+
so I tried to unjammed the pedal by slipping my foot underneath and pulling and after few trial it did unjammed but it scare the helll out of me for few second.

I felt lucky that there was not much traffic at that time. When I arrived at home depot I turn off the engine and stump on the gas pedal and again the gas pedal got stuck and it was underneath the right corner of the Diamond plate mat, I basically need to trim the mat a little bit.

What a freakin experience, isn't kind of weird I would never though a diamond plate mat can be that dangerous.

Cheers

the pedal gets stuck with any mat. I had the same problem, and I decided to take the mat from the drivers seat. I think it is safer.

Those diamond plate floormats don't look that great anyways, just take it off and be done with it.

Why neutral? This might over-rev. the engine and possibly cause internal engine damages. Pushing the clutch and shut off the engine seems like the safe way...though you need to leave it on "ACC" or else the steering wheel might get locked which the results will be more severe!

that can happen to any mats, that why i stuck with the factory mat that has those grommet pin that holds the mats in place.

If you look at most of the floor mats being made today they all have a hook and grommet to keep them from sliding up and catching the gas pedal. Our maxima's luckily have it.

If it ever happens to you in a quickly stomp on the gas pedal all the way as fast as you can and it'll usually get "un-stuck".

But with those diamond plate mats, I don't know if that would work though.....

And..... Hello Andre!!!! Greetings from sunny CA!

Hahaha, I assure you banging on the rev limiter once isn't going to do any damage... The VQ is strong and can handle running at high as hell rpm's all the time anyways. Good point about the accesories position on the ignition though, if you turn the key all the way back while the car's moving, say goodbye to steering wheel control...

That hook is by far one of my favorite features on the car. Once I was driving my Moms 98 Scooby Outback 5spd and the floor matt somehow found its way on top of the clutch pedal and below the brake pedal, this caused the clutch to not release all the way and caused the clutch to slip majorly. The smell didn't go away for a week
<3 those little hooks

Pushing the clutch in while driving would be the same thing as putting the auto in nuetral. Either way, the engine would be disconnected from the transmission.

This would cause the car to stop accelerating but then the engine would start pounding on the rev limiter. Hint: engines don't blow at low rpms.

Tell me something that I don't know. I was replying to the person that said pushing in the clutch was a safer way. To me they are nearly the same with either tranny.

Hint: Engines usually don't blow under no load with a rev limiter to prevent it from going further, either.

And kill the tranny but that's better than killing yourself, actually I forgot to mention but in the first attempt I just turn off the contact.

Hello Brian, effectively there is a hook near the seat so I'm going to drill a whole and fix it to the hook, I remove the mat until I cut a piece of the corner and be shure it doesn't scare me again.

Cheers
