Am I nuts? Thinking about saying bye to the Max...
And saying hello to mini cooper S. I know it doesn't have as much power but they just look like they're a blast to drive, like a 170 hp go kart.
Anyone else have one? Is it fun, more so than the max?
This would be used mainly as a comuter car so space isn't that critical. Plus I wont have to deal with the worry of having my lights stolen or the stupid break pads warping all the time!
What do ya think?

Id only get one as a second car not as a DD. Theres way less space, depending on how tall you are not a back seat (i do hear that they can accomodate someone tall as 6'7") and they do look like they are Silly fun to drive, but id still keep my max as a DD

....they sure didn't look gay in the italian job when they were jumpin all over the place.you're not alone man, i was contemplating trading it in. i've wanted that mini since it came out. it looks like a lot of fun to drive, and it's a quick little thing. reminds me of when i had my CRX.
the only reason i never traded it in is because i bought a place, so if i traded my car in, i'd simply be starting a new debt all over again, whereas this car should be done by next year.
but......if it weren't for that, i'd be in a mini right now.

If you think the kind of vehicle he drives has anything to do with his masculinity or sexual preference, then perhaps you need to do a little "soul searching" yourself. I mean give me a break...are you truly that immature, or is it just your own sexual insecurities you're worried about?
Now, back to the topic at hand...
The Cooper S is probably the most fun car to drive right now b/c you truly can drive it at it's limits and still be safe. It's predictable, good looking, light weight, and has mods that currently push the output of that 1.6L S/C'ed engine to 250 hp. What's not to like? It is very roomy for it's size, including the back seats (mind you, not for long 10 hour road trips), and has a very nice interior. It also turns more heads than vehicles costing twice as much, if not more. Personally, I would remove the rear seats entirely and build some type of custom cargo system (which would be more usable to me, anyway). This car is definitely in my top 3 for next "fun" car to purchase and play with (and I'm buying within a year)...
u know what... i thought they were madd gay when they first came out... but the more i see them... the more i want one.... they look like so much fun to drive around in........ if i had some money i'd buy that as a toy to drive around in...........
i've also been lookin more into the scion... that car is really growing on me... imagine setting up a system in that car... i think it has lots of pimping potential...

Im sorry that i have an opinion that differs from you guys but nevertheless its just an opinioin
Did cabowabo not ask what we thought about trading max in for cooper? yes or no? of course he did.
I stand by my first statement. I think the cooper mini is too small and every FEMALE that has an opinion about the car LOVES them. Just like the VW bug-MOSTLY WOMEN buy them and drive them.
Just like the miata. Sure its one of the best handeling cars but its a tiny go kart and i would never buy one.
So I guess you guys are wrong. Just because I think a particular car is more in line for females dosent mean Im sexually insecure or immature.
Next time Ill say the car is the best and looks great and dosent look like Mr. Bean should be driving it

Hey man, you started the gay comments. So that does make you wrong for sterotyping...
And judging by this post, you are slightly immature, but perhaps not as bad as others.
Like I always say, it's your money..."F" what everyone else thinks. If you drive it and enjoy it, buy it. I'm just here to point out the facts of the car...
it does have a fun factor, but mods would run a pretty penny. If you want a ride that's fun get yourself a real go kart. Make sure not the one from Costco or BJs though. You wont have to pay insurance on it, it will be cheaper in maintenance, and you will look cool towing something like that. A good small commuter car is the new Mazda 3...the Mini is a bit metrosexual if ya know what I mean....lol

.Nope...but every once in a while I get fed up with all the BS that gets posted, and you're the unlucky soul I decided to vent on this time around. Don't take it too personally
I think the Cooper is pretty cool. Most of the guys that think it looks gay is probably the same guys that need a "mans" car to compensate for small ***** size. Don't worry about what they think. As far as safety goes, I have read the Cooper is one of the safest on the road. The only thing I would worry about is the overall quality and reliability. German cars are not rated as well as Jap cars in those catagories. I saw in Consumer Reports the Cooper was rated poor in reliability. But I have also heard the car is a blast to drive. Like I said do not worry about the so called "macho" guys. I guarantee chiks older than 16 will like a guy in a Cooper better than a guy in a camaro, or even a Max, doing doing burnouts trying to impress the ladies.

I understand your point about equating a car to a particular gender.but i guess i was using "gay" in the generic sense of the word.
To be honest if someone gave me a free mini cooper-s Id drive the h3ll out of it.
my bad for getting my panties in a bunch.
Later, Will

It's a total POS, but I've seen some 1.8T swaps that were mighty impressive (one with 330+ WHP). I guess in that instance I was more impressed with the drivetrain than the actual body which housed it. No, cabby's are not my favorite VW by a long shot. Now a vert Karmann Ghia...well, that's another story all together!
I say again, you will not be dis-satisfied with a Cooper S...even a stock one. I've driven the JC Works Cooper S, and it was most impressive. I've also driven the cam swapped Cooper S (with 240+ HP), and it was nothing short of phenominal (it had a LSD unit as well).
I wouldent trade in the Max on one, but I think they are very cool. I just cant immagine driving a car that small. I need my space, thats why I dont have a G35.
About all of this Gay crap. I dont think that the Mini is in any way a FEMALE car. You compaired it to a VW bug (IMO a Girl's car)... I think the Mini is kind of a trendy, retro, small car that MEN can feel good about driving!
But hey, Each to his (or her, HeHe) own.

Thanks for you comments so far. I'm just thinking about it, not acting on it just yet. I've always liked to mini since it came out but it was not available when I got the max and I needed a car.
My big thing is that I'm paranoid to bring the max anywhere other than work or home due to the HID theft problem. Nissan is exactly jumping through hoops to fix the problem. What's the point of having a car if you can't drive it anywhere without worrying that some jerk off is going to take the lights.

Exactly.
The Maxima isn't exactly the manliest car around either, so don't get offended when guys in their F-bodies or trucks start making fun of you for being

The Mini Cooper are very cute and rad car however they are not very reliable cars. They had a rash of recalls and fixes that BMW had a lot of problem. I remember reading somewhere on one of the website. It's your money.
