K&N filter....really CRAP??

I take off my K&N filter off today and look into the tube of the MAF......and all over that MESH before the MAF sensor i see black

so i rub my figure over it and all this black dust/dirt is all over my finger

so my question is ....Is this caused by the K&N filter? and should i get a diff filter? since that shouldnt be happening...dirt and dust i never good for an engine

How often do you clean the filter? How long, miles, was the filter in before you checked the tube?

yeh, I have the K&N panel filter with stock intake and don't think I've found soot in my intake tract... except upstream from the filter.

Apexi filter here and have never found any buildup of soot or dirt. I did when I had my K&N.

Hmmmmm. I've put about 8000 miles so far and no problems like you are describing.

Apexi filters will leave your intake tract spotless.....

Like I've always said, the best, but there is a price you have to pay......

I have a Nissan stock filter, and I don't find black soot or dust on the mesh or the intake pipe. I think those K&N Filter has too much oiliing in it that cause some filtering problem and of course cause some MAF problem.

The K&N panel filter isn't worth the money. It will give you no gains whatsoever and filters worse than the stock panel filter. If your looking for a reusable filter, the Amsoil foam filter is much more reasonably priced, but I would stick to a paper drop in.
