Headlight alignment 2k2 & 2k3 only, Restrictions apply.....

Just curious, for you guyz with 2k2 and 2k3.......please reply only if you've never had front end collision repair, never had HID stolen, or even removed them.

Question is, are you headlights aligned evenly or should I say flush with the body and no gaps anywhere? I'm wondering if the alignment issue has to do with aiming the lights. When you aim these lights does the whole headlight housing move with it?

I've just seen a couple of maxes out there which have never been wrecked and headlights not removed, but they are not really aligned with either side and some not flush......

Thanks for the help.....I'm trying to find out about this because I'm in the middle of purchasing one and there is a gap on the passenger underneath the headlight about a 1/4 of an inch.......

the headlights can be aimed up/down with an 8mm ratchet via an 8mm screw on the back of the assy.

Unless the H/L have been replaced with the halogen H/L fixture, there should not be any gap. Are you sure the H/L are xenons? From those I've seen (edit ) only the converted ones have the gap...

The headlight of any car aren't aligned with left and right headlight. The reason
for this is because the driverside is aimed closer to the ground to prevent
blinding an oncoming traffic and the passenger is aimed higher for better view.
It comes like this from factory. I usually like to have both headlights aimed
equally just a tad shorter than the highbeams. I use my fogs to pick up the
slack.

thanx for the responses guyz, i understand the aiming of the headlights......what i'm getting at is whether or not this car's been wrecked......i figured the headlights should be in alignment with one another if from factory.
now if the aim of the headlights consist of the housing to move also, then that explains the gap on the passenger side......sorry if i wasn't clear in my initial post. do your headlights have a gap underneath them as reference to the bumper, or even the fenders. run you fingers along the edge of the headlight around the housing, is the gap equal or not? and if you have a new car that's never been wrecked, i'm presuming that it should be equal, unless the aim changes that alignment. again just wanted to state that i'm trying to make sure this car hasn't been wrecked.....

My car has never been into an accident so both of my lights are flush with the
bumper. Check with carfax and find out if your vehicle has been in an accident.
Good luck

When I re-aimed mine, it did cause a gap between the bumper and the light area. There is no gap though betw. the side of the headlight and the fender. The owner may have attempted to re-aim them which is what's causing the gap.

Ok

On the 2k2+ HID assemblies, the white screw adjusted the burner assembly. The WHOLE BUCKET does NOT move. Its fixed.

Using the adjustment screw on the back only moves INTERNAL parts.

If you are worried about accident, look for signs of

1) overspray in wheel wheel, behind bumper, near radiator, in the engine bay. Also run your fingers along the edges of the hood (carefully) and see if there is a ridge. If so...the hood has been repainted.
2) Check to see that all the "plastic" parts line up. Splash guards in wheel wells.
3) see if any plastic clips are missing. Again splash guards in wheel wells, clips on front air intake assembly and so on...
4) Is there any difference in the sheen of the paint on the front versus the rest of the car?
5) If there are NO chips on the front of the car...it has been repainted sometime...

Good Luck
