Auto Tranny Question

When i downshift to first in my 01 max auto,(going about 25-30mph) it seems a bit harsh. Is this normal. I used to have a 2000 corolla and it was very smooth when downshifting into 1st. Is it cause the max has about a 100 extra HP compared to the corolla.

THIS WILL SURELY COST YOU A TRIP TO THE TRANNY MAN VERY SOON . GET A SIX OR FIVE SPEED. AND EVEN IN THOSE OPTS DOWNSHIFTING IN 30-25MPG IS HARSH .

you cant compare a maxima tranny to a corolla tranny.

btw, what do you mean by harsh? pulls out hard? shift hard?

Bet you want that Corolla back now. Are you talking about manually downshifting?

I wouldnt do that to much.. 25 mph is around 4000 Rpm .. and for your tranny to shift it has to catch at about 4000 rpm and if your downshifting from second at that speed its around 2000 rpm. some how it has to force the gear in.. and thats the JERK you feel. and then the engine braking that you cuase by downshifting is the nose dive your car does. Your car is doing normal things, but DONT DO THAT!!!!

Under 55 mph - you can engage Overdrive ( 3rd gear)

Under 40 mph - 2nd gear is alright..

and under 10 mph -- the shift to first is still rather harsh ..
( alL of these are the shift points that i use.. but i only do them when i have been on the brakes a lot lately.. or in an emergency. ( I don't do shifting very much and don't recomend it )
