Not only chipped, if god forbid the headlight ever shattered, the tape will keep the glass in tact. its sort of like when you tape up your windows when you know you may get hit by a bad storm. If any debree shatters the window, you know the tape should at lest keep in tact instead of having glass everywhere!.

Keep tires from getting blown and is just plain smart to do when you go to the track.

Nothing fancy, when i use to race in SCCA i use to use a nylon tape that i got from Home depot. It came in many colors, usually i just used black.

All headlights are plastic. If it breaks, it will stay intact anyway. You might get a small piece flying out though. But it's definitely not going to shatter like glass.

True, most modern cars have plast beizels to protect the lights. But cars early 90's and older had glass for there headlights.
