I think I did that experiment once by hooking up my vacuum pump to the VIAS fresh air port and maintaining a vacuum on it. Kept the vacuum pump tucked between the airbox and the battery. Problem was, the sh*tty tubes that came with the vacuum pump collapsed

Is the reason why the stock 5-spd 97-99 versus the stock 5-spd 00-01, where the the former is sometimes the same if not faster than the latter (in 0 to 60 springs), due to a malfunctioning in the VIAS? I know my car doesn't feel nor does it sound any different after 5000 RPM.

Maybe the VIAS aren't even working when they come off the line so when they are magazine tested, they are slower than developed to be. Or maybe, thats a stretch.

Who knows... maybe that's another reason they switched to a metal manifold in (2k1? 2k2?)

I'm going to do another test to verify the L-shaped rod is moving properly under no load.
Keep silicone containing products away from the engine intake. It takes very little silicone to render O2 sensors junk. The silicone survives the combustion process and is impinged on the "business end" of the sensor.
