VIAS broken...Please help!!
VIAS broken...Please help!!
Hey guys,
I had a disheartening dyno experience the other day and it started making me wonder if there was something wrong with my max. I don't have a digital camera or a scanner so I can't post the sheet. Basically this is what happend: 178 max horsepower and 198 max torque. I am happy with the torque but the horsepower figure is way low. At 4800 rpms, my horsepower curve platues and then drops off at 5800 rpms. I was like "WTF, I thougt that my max came with variable valve timing".
So after much research on the org, I found out that my VIAS was malfuntioning. I performed the visual test of reving the engine past 5000 rpms to see if the L-shaped rod moved and it did, so it apears to be working, but it isn't.
Through my research, I found that Max_Gator had this same identical problem on his max. His dyno sheet and mine are almost identical as far as the horsepower curve. Thru much research he found that it was his VIAS malfunctioning. He got his fixed by the dealer replacing the system and placing it under "customer goodwill".
My question is, I know that other people have had this problem. How did you guys fix it? I DEFINATLY want to avoid the dealer at all costs. But is that my only alternative?
Thanks to everyone in advance for any info/help.
