Automatic transmission fluid change

I haven't done mine, my car has 72K already. Do I have to actually flush the transimssion or just change the oil. I really would drop the oil pan and clean everything. Any suggestions?

at 72k, i would feel safer about flushing about it. i do a drain and refill with mobil 1 at 30k intervals but at 72k with original fluid i would have it flushed out to remove as much as possible. a drain and refill will only get out 4-5 quarts depending on if you drop the pan or not. maybe consider dropping the pan, clean the magnets then, replacing what you took out then having it flushed a little later on.

So tis is what I heard, if I change the oil at this milage am supposed to leave some of the old oil to hopefully prevent any damage to the clutches. Is this right?

Just find a local shop that specializes in Nissans / Japanese vehicles (not the dealer) and give them $65 to do it right and not have to get dirty. This assumes the shop you go to has been recommended by others. Then stay on the "every 30k" plan.

These shops are all over. Good technicians tired of working for "the man"; usually head techs that start their own shop.

this is typically only true when a transmission is not in good condition and the fluid is changed. my friend just had her fluid flushed in her tranny in her pathfinder with 108k. she had no issue before the flush besides old fluid and no problems afterwards.
