Well some people like to paint the mud flaps as well. You can do that by popping them out (the nozzles) and after cleaning with rubbin alcohol use Krylon or equivalent paint or sand, prime and paint. Either way, it's quite simple and should hide that ugly wax residue that you could never wipe off in all the curves (if your car isn't white that does not apply).
