SE, GLE, GXE? How do I know which model I have?

I bought my Maxima used. I was reluctant to buy a car since I loved my Nissan pickup. I wrecked it last week and used the insurance settlement as a down payment on my Maxima. I've had it for 4 days and I'm in love again.

Which emblem does it have on the trunk lid?

For some reason I have a feeling this question is going to get many of these...

you can call Nissan (find the number in the nissanusa.com website) and they can tell you what trim the vehicle is based on the VIN number. I did this for mine, because carfax doesnt tell you either

Not tru all the way....I have a GXE and I have factory fogs, tail and chrome handles. There are other hints, an SE wont have chrome contours and a GXE doesnt have any emblem on the rear except for MAXIMA.
.....best way to check is call Nissan, because a lot of these things are options that can be added to the different trims

No. After all, no matter what model it is, it's still an *** kicking Maxima!

as in. even though it's used, the price of the car somewhat depends on the model.

Yeah, the GLE and SE are worth more because of the available options. The GXE is the base making it the least expensive maxima for that year, assuming that conditon, miles, etc. are the same.
You can always get a GXE and soop it up, like me

Alicia, Look under your hood.
There should be an identification plate to the right of your vin plate. What's the 6th Character? I know a B in that spot is a GXE...

what year is your max?

pre 2K2, these items were std.

GXE = cloth seats, cass. player, no emblem in back, optional sec. & conv. pkg, wheel covers, optional 16" alloy wheels w/ sec. & conv. pkg
SE = rear spoiler, white face gauges, sport cloth, "SE" emblem, smoked tails, midlevel audio system w/ cd/cass., wide range of option pkg.'s (leather pkg., sec & conv. pkg., meridian pkg.), 17" alloy wheels, optional bose stereo
GLE = power leather seats, bose cd/cass stereo, auto climate control, "GLE" emblem (optional meridian pkg.), 16" alloy wheels until 2K2

GXE & GLE both have black face gauges

sunroof optional on all models

can someone correct if I'm wrong on features and option pkg.'s?

You can find the model on your vehicle ID plate located under the hood. It's on the driver's side of the firewall. The 6th character in the 3rd line designates the model. If your letter is E, you have the GXE. G= GLE and T= SE. The line starts with BLJUL on the line you want to decipher. This info is from the Nissan service manual for the 02 Max.

gauge faces - if it's white/silver, its an SE. If it's not, then it's not an SE.

If it doesn't say SE or GLE on the trunk, most likely you have a GXE, which did not have a "GXE" badge....

What if it was debaged???...If the door handles are the same color as the body, then its an SE...If you've got auto climate, then its a GLE...If not A, or B then C...C=GXE....

for 2000 and i assume 2001, it's:

B: gxe for usa. gxe and gxe-l and gle for canada
E: gxe-l for usa
G: gle for usa
T: se for usa, se ad se-s and se-l for canada
V: se-s and se-l for usa

we could do this the easy way. go pop your hood and write down the sequence of letters and number on the vehicle id plate that start with BLHU and let us know what it is.

pop your hood and stand facing your car. just to the right of the middle of the firewall there is a plarte. that's where the number is.

go do it now.

The answer is...

GXE

Cloth seats, chrome door handles, 17" alloy wheels, no emblem on back. I called Nissan and asked them.

Thanks for the help.

I have a pic on my profile.

Those are 16's, Alicia. Nissan's trying to pull as fast one on you......Soonerfan has the same ones on his ride and they are definitely 16's. Look at the tire sidewall and it will say 225/60/16 or something like that...the 16 is the wheel diameter.

soonerfan's car, with the same 16's:

since you didn't care when you bought the car, if it was an SE, GXE, or GLE, why care now? if you paid for an SE and got a GXE, knowing you got OWNED isn't gonna help..

and guys,,stop acting like you care soooo much which model she got. if this was your average joe, this thread would have been

yeah....because I'm trying to hit on a girl in tennessee....uh huh.

If not for your three posts that contribute NOTHING to this thread, the thread would be three posts shorter. The difference is some of us are trying to answer a question posed by a newbie and you are just flaming....

dba, I do love your rims, though.......

Oops! You're right. They are 16" rims. My mistake was taking a ruler out and measuring it myself instead of looking at the little number on the tire.

Don't laugh! I'm used to driving a truck and only cared about getting to work. Before that I had a Chevy Chevette.

Many? Besides mine I barely see a couple of 5th gen Max's a day on the road, and I'm proud with that (sorry for hating on Accords and Camrys again) :P

Talking about packages, is it me, or is it really that only GXE comes with the wheels Alicia has?
