DO you guys hear this clunking noise?

I have an 02 maxima se. the problem, which I had for awhile and seems to be getting worse, is that after I park my car overnight and try to back it up from the garage or even go forward, there is this loud noise coming from the rear or the front, can't really tell. it feels like the brakes are not released cuz the car wouldn't roll even if i am on a slant surface, so I hear this loud clank noise after i give it a bit of gas to get the car out of that "stuck" state. Does anyone else have this problem or heard of it? I went to teh dealer to have them check it out, but they couldn't reproduce the sound, so they couldn't fix it. any help is appreciated. thanks

Do you park outside in a humid environment? If you do, and use your parking brake, it probably gets stuck to the rotor overnight. I get that sound if I use my parking brake after washing my car and parking it overnight in the garage.

Yup, I've had that noise, too. As you guys are saying, I figured it was the pads sticking to the rotors. Happens in wet weather or after I wash it. I'm thinking it won't cause any damage, right? But it sure is annoying....

It's normal (or least not broken!) and does not damage anything.

that sounds liek a problem. I dont think any other car does that. Anyone tried to get it fixed under warrenty?

Now i am beginning to hear a hissing sound when i drive along a enclosed road (cuz the sound bounces back), coming from the brakes i bet.

My car does the same exact thing. Doesn't need to be wet outside and I don't use the e-brake when I park my car overnight. But for me, its when I go into reverse after the car has sat all night. I hear it only in the rear of the car. I don't think there is anything worth worring over.

check the little spring coil on ur ebrake & make sure all ur nuts & bolts are tight on the rear brakes. sounds like ur brake pads are just draging over the rotor

Look through the TSB sticky. There is one out for this.

Virus, Can you provide a link, or point me in the right direction? I just looked in the stickies, the Govt. site and Nissan's site and didn't see anything for this....

Nice discussion. I had a problem with this too, but I thought it's normal and it didn't bother me too much, so I just ignored it. I'll try to park without my e-brake on tonight and see what happens.

BTW, if you need any TSB, go here:

I believe the TSB # is NTB01-069a

Thanks for the link. I saw that one before and thought it was just for a clunking noise when the car was in motion, not starting from a stop.

Has anyone with the parked 'clunk' had this done? Did it fix the problem?
