Crank Pulley and Sound System

Crank Pulley and Sound System
I have an 2002 6SPD SE
I am currently running 2 amps. One for the 6 speakers and one for the two 12 inch subs. Would it be a smart idea for me to buy an underdrive pulley for my car?? I heard underdriving the alternator with a system isn't smart. What are my options?
Thanks,
MArk
ALso where is the cheapest/best place to buy an UD pulley for our cars

do not do it.
I run about 3 amps (1400 rms) myself, and though you car may 'seem' to handle it, it is not advisable. I have read through faqs explaining why it is a bad idea, as the current will be demanded on with so many amps, andyou simply won't be able to say have the AC on, andhave a thumping system in the middle of summer, without noticing your lights fading or other electronic problems. The UD pulley isn't even worth it, if u run a system. Personally, i rather have the ICE, then a negligible mod that doesn't do much.
p.s
if you do it, regardless of my advice, southwest autoworks just came out with a good pulley, at about 100$ i believe. Still, i suggest don't do it.

I'm running 950w RMS between 2 amps and 2 12" subs on a DMS UDP with an Optima Yellow Top. I've had no problems running the stereo at loud volumes. I even do it with the AC, my foglights and DDEs on. Oh, and I'm located in Florida. I'm just below the "Do Not Do It" limit.

i won't argue with yuo guys, of course if it works for you great. Wouldn't run one myself. I was worried about that from the begining when i started putting in my system, i'm just saying it's a bad mod to do, if u plan on running really heavy amps.

hey, one thing
I would suggest you get a nice cap in there, and i saw studman has a optima yellow top. If he says it works fine, i believe, yet notice he has those mods which do help alot.
Get the same one he got.
btw, how much power are you going to run? I had an issue with the alternator in previous cars, since i usually run a pretty big system. I think out alternator is pretty decent, not sure of the amp rating, yet its probably like 80 amps or so i bet.
Under driving might have some long term effects, if u run a system, maybe not for awhile. I like having peace of mind, and no, i'm not an electrician so i cannot say wether your alternator will choke, but thats your call.

Screw it. I can't really even get a definitive answer so it is obviously a useless mod that has many downfalls especially while running a system. I will just go with the big mods like headers

I acutally tested this.
I had a 96 protege (http://members.cardomain.com/minirx07)...
I installed a UDP underdrive pulley... and then i got an AMPERAGE test done on the alternator.
My OEM alternator output per factory was 70amps.
My car had near 160,000kms (cdn kms) on it, and the output with the UDP was 62AMPS. so i lost 8 amps.
Thats not too bad at all
