SES Reset

I was wondering if anyone knew how to reset the SES light on a 2000 max? It's pretty amazing, I've had 4 coils go bad, a blown MAF, bad battery and not one code. But start your car with the electric fans unhooked........ I flushed my radiator and cleaned the fins and blew out the four years of bugs, birds and other crap stuck in the condenser and radiator. I started the car to let it start warming up while I was plugging the harnesses up. Next thing you know...... SES. Then my friendly neighborhood Nissan wants to charge me $60 to reset. I asked him why so much for 2 minutes of time. He said we always charge $60 for diagnosis. SO I asked him, what are you diagnosing? He said thats what we charge and thats the only way to reset it. Love that fine Nissan cust service. Thanks in advance for the info on the reset.

If it is a 2000 or 2001 Max, just pull the negative battery terminal overnight.

For 2002-2003
ECU Resetting Procedures

Timing is extremely critical. If it is NOT DONE within the specify time, the ECU will not reset and the Check Engine Light (CEL) will continue to remain ON.
A stop watch or an analog clock with a second’s needle will be useful.

Operations Procedures

1. Confirm that accelerator pedal is fully released, turn ignition switch “ON” and wait 3 seconds.
2. Repeat the following steps (2a and 2b) procedures quickly five times within 5 seconds.
2a. Fully depress the accelerator pedal (HARD).
2b. Fully release the accelerator pedal.
3. Wait 7 seconds, fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for approx. 10 seconds until the CEL starts blinking.
4. Fully release the accelerator pedal (while the CEL is still blinking)
5. Wait about 10 second.
6. Fully depress the accelerator pedal and keep it for more than 10 seconds.
7. Fully release the accelerator pedal (The CEL light will continue to blink).
8. Turn ignition switch to “OFF” position and now you can start the car. The CEL light should be gone.

If the CEL light continues to remain ON, repeat the above steps. Timing is EXTREMELY critical to resetting the ECU.

CAN WE MAKE THIS A STICKY ????

Thanks Maxguy, worked like a charm. Now I can take that $60 I saved from Nissan and buy a tank and a half of gas
