Is the Dragon Intake any good?

Anybody running the Weapon-R intake with the foam filter on it? Is it any good? I know the intake "thing" has been beat to death. I haven't seen much on this forum regarding this particular intake.

Anybody running it and happy with it for the money?

Steve

Don't take my word on it, but i think those intakes are for Honda/Acuras. If they make them for Nissans now, that would be cool. I know there real popular amongst the Honda/Acura crowd.

Check it - they make them for quite a few Nissans, including my 2002 SE

http://www.dragonintakes.com/nissan.html

I'm seriously considering one of them.

They have some interesting engineering in the intake piping. There's some sort of velocity enhancing wing like device near the elbow. It's CAD designed stuff, and it apparently works pretty well based on the independant dyno figures they show.

Take a minute to check out that other site and look at the dyno numbers yourself. They are all pretty close, but superior filtration and ease of cleaning with the tackified foam filter sounds like a better way to go in my opinion.

Not bad dyno numbers , love the price of it too. I say hey , be diffrent and buy it. You would probally be the first person who would have a diffrent intake system then the rest of us. Everybody here usually goes with Injen, Berk, Cattman, or GAB(Ghetto Air Box).

Go for it!!!

I did it...I just bought the polished version AND another filter assembly just as a backup.
I sure hope I don't blow my MAF with this thing. This is the first mod I will be doing on my MAX. I'm stoked!

I've owned the Weapon R intakes(non-Dragon) in my past toyotas.....very good value/performance
although the vg2 foam filters begin to disintegrate after a year or so and need replacement- there have been talk in some boards that the foam material ends up slowly falling off the filter and flying up the throtle body.....this cant be good specially with our sensitive MAF's- the slightest accumulation of debris in there can cause limp mode

If you are gonna try it.....just keep an eye on the filter over time.....specially in hot weather

I got the WeaponR just to see how good it is. I was worried about the foam filter deal so I got the apexi filter w/ adapter from Frankencar. I like the way both filters sound. The apexi setup is not as loud as the dragon but it still works. If I had to put the dragon back on I would only do it for show.

More pics on my cardomain site.

Well I'm running it as is, and I bought a second filter assembly as a backup. If you add the cost of a replacement foam element to the cleaning kit, you come out more than a new filter assembly so I said screw it and bought an additional filter. My car won't see 10k a year since it's my wife's car. I'll put the stock airbox back on the car once the snow flies, and just store the Dragon setup. The two filters should last me 4 years easily.

As far as what the difference is between this and the Berk, I've never had either one of them in my hand to tell you exactly. I believe there should be something unique inside the intake pipe that's some sort of velocity stack / airflow director blade like this

Oh....and the filter is different obviously.
