Coil Identification

Hey guys. I bought my car used a little while back. I wanted to check to see if the coils had ever been replaced on my car. Is it possible to tell the difference between the old and new coils by looking at them? Unfortunately, I'm out of warranty for this, so I would be paying out of pocket if I decide to replace them. Thanks guys.

Yeah the new coils have a silver dot on them. While the old ones do not. So if you have the silver dots on your coils then that means you have the updated coils and shouldnt worry too much about them.

not all of the updated coils have the silver dot. i think that statement applies to the 2k2's which should all have the dot and updated coils. my 2k1 does not have the silver dot but the part number balances to the updated coil numbers. your best bet if you have a 2k or 2k1 is to check the part number on the coil itself and cross it to the updated one. i dont have the updated numbers off hand but you can check them on a nissan's part site like jerry rome nissan.

Yeah sorry. I was referring to the idea he had the 2000 max which didnt have the coil update, but when replaced did have the dots. This is new to me that the 2k1's had the newer coils put in at the factory for a bit. Good to hear.
