Put some homemade groundwires in my car today...

read about a lot of people doing this so i thought i might as well just make my own, couldnt be too hard... I followed Irish44j's howto and it was really easy and was like 25 bucks in parts, not too bad. first impression is that I may feel a little bit of power gained in the low end, not quite sure. also the car seemed to start up quicker than normal and the rpms were a little peppier as well. These may all be psychological things but I think it was worth the 25 bucks and a couple hours. gave me somethin to do.

Those are more or less the same things soonerfan said yesterday after I helped him set his up....

my "extended" thoughts on it after a week:
1. smoother idle and cruising
2. engine and accessories "seem" quieter
3. quicker start-up
4. windows seem to go up/dn faster (though that may have to do with my new tint as well)
5. low-end hesitation (from my intake) is greatly reduced...
6. revs seem quicker.

be sure to post some pics!

Where are you guys getting your wires and ring terminals? I know it wouldn't be the same as I used for my stereo because $25 would just cover the terminals.

I got everything at home depot. it was like 3 bucks for 3 terminals and i used 12 so 4 packages. Then theres 20 feet of wire at like 50 cents a foot. and then i just used electrical tape after i crimped the connector onto the wires. so about 22-25 dollars it should be. I used 6 gauge wire and 1/4 inch connectors.

Here's what I used. Soonerfan used the same stuff as me. All from Home Depot:

23' 6-gauge wire @0.45/ft ($10)
5 packs of 6gauge x 1/4" ring connectors ($15)
2 packs of correct size wire shrink wraps ($3)

Total cost for Jason (soonerfan) was $30 after tax.

note: I removed the blue plastic collars from the ring connectors in advance and just used the metal parts, covered the connection with the shrink wrap, which can be shrunken to fit using either hair dryer (takes a while) or cig lighter (much faster)

I'm heading to boston today (without the car, unfortunately) so it may be a week or so before I get to the tranny ground.

We DID find the auto tranny ground on soonerfan's car....need to buy a bolt to fit it

Still not sure where the 5-sp tranny ground it, but I'm not too worried about it, since the ground would help the auto but probably not the manual...
