As for auto to 6spd on a 00, I'm doing one next weekend for a .org member- will tell ya how it goes and will have pictures.

Yeah dude, but Acura = Honda...

They both have crappy auto trannys. It's a fact (unfortunately proven time and time again by the TL and Accord owners).

Very impressive. You managed to insult auto owners (probably more than half the people on the org) and the handicapped by stringing together 2 short sentences with only a small amount of errors.

you must be very especial.

i could see it if you manually shifted all the time, never replaced the tranny oil, left the drop resister unplugged all the time and did neutral drops. i manually shifted my old 95 altima up to 105k then sold it my ex and still on the original tranny @ 130k. if i didnt make peak power at redline then i wouldnt worry about it but stock for stock, someone on the street that manually shifts will pull someone that keeps it in D. the difference is not huge but if its correctly done with regular tranny oil changes and no neutral bombs then i do not and have not seen why it would not last.

In your line of thinking the Auto trans shifter should just be Park, Reverse, Neutral & Drive, forget the 1 & 2 which have been on almost all autos for the last 30+ years. WTF do you think those are there for? Looks? Towing? Going up the occasional hill? Get real or get beat by people who know how to drive.

If it shifts quicker letting off the gas, which most autos do when driven this way, good for them at the track.

If one does end up going bad WTF do you think the 60K warranty is for, and most of the people posting in this thread wouldn't take their car to the dealer for a tranny swap out of warranty anyway.

may, or may not chew up your tranny
Honda engines suck nuts
Honda trannies are
Quicksilver will try to control is temper and flame the correct nay sayers,

it doesn't chew your transmission, its not like your forcing the transmission to abruptly select a gear, its still electronically controlled like in 'D' your just holding the gear longer at WOT, I dont' see why people are even arguing over this and why someone has to call everyone ignorant when you yourself hasn't posted any techical data.

btw, whats ignorant and useless about this?

[/b]Well, it actually is a good discovery, especially for those who want to get better times down the 1/4mile with an automatic.

On a VQ-K maxima, the transmission upshifts at 6K rpms in 'D' at WOT. Peak HP is made at 6,400rpms so the shift is no where near peak HP. If you upshift manually (1-2-D selector) at redline, the revs will drop to 4,300rpms vs. 4,000rpms if you keep it in 'D' at WOT. This way the car will reach peak HP, take some advantage of gearing, and upshift into a high powerband.

If you do the trick that the thread start tried (let off the gas, punch it after the shift it manually 'i think') you'll land back around 5,300rpms, above VI switchover (5K) which is where the VQ-K makes the most of its power.

I've manuall shifted my Maxima when going WOT most of the time in my 2K for all its 80K+ miles and the transmission has treated me well and is safe. I've even done 1st gear downshifts above 35mph and perfected it to upshift into '2' quick enough without hitting the rev limiter. I've *never* tried this lifting off the throttle method though so I wouldn't know if that effects the transmission in anyway.

J30 and J32A Honda engines are actually pretty good, its a toss up between a 01 CL-S J32A engine and VQ30DE-K for me.... trannys suck on Acuras, their engines are pretty much bullet proof for reliablity when stock- can't compare moded ones never really seen a CL-S or TL-S with more than intake, headers, pulleys and exhaust on it- and even with a 5 speed auto I tend to think they would be a pretty good match for a moded 3.5L Auto Maxima.
