Some 2002/2003 have issues with excessive notchiness of 3rd gear. Some had their tranny replaced under warranty. Same applies to Z owners. It does not seem to be a widespread problem. Also from the posts, Redline MT90 gear fluid seems to cure it.

yall are jealous cuz u dotn have an AE
i could have easily bought a 02 or 03 SE but i got my 01 AE instead. the options available on this thing are mazing when it comes down the little details and stuff. also my friend has an auto 02 SE and i can take him in my 5 spd everytime. not by much at all bu teverytime. our driving abaility also reflects that. but either way if u want something that already comes looking hot as hell get the AE if not go 02. all the AE needs to look BLING is sum HIDs and people are always tradin them and selling them and htey r easy to install. and lastly. also i just did sum Nadaguides a used car research for u. a 2001 AE with all options like mine and 53K miles is worth 18,300 approx. the 02 SE with all options and 53K miles is 18K and change. my 01 AE as is with all mods gettin sold to sum chic whos a friend of mine (dont worry guys, she can drive a stick better than 85% of the guys i kno) for $18,200. unless u wanna give me a better offer. either way good luck and i hope u find sumthing perfect for U.

yeah but i rather have a bigger engine and a 6 speed than a AE. Plus there would be no way a AE would take a 6 speed.

Not to be a hatter or anything but 3.0L 5spd with some goodies will still be plenty fun and its not that much slower than the 3.5L 6spds. You guys make it sound like U comparing a Base Ford Focus to a SVT Supercharged Cobra Mustang..... its not that big of a performance difference. Throw a turbo / supercharger on a 3.0L and we can talk... I guess none of ya ever visited the boosted side of the .Org

Throw a TC or SC and blow your tranny. I'd rather stick to more standard performance mods, no offense.

Come on, when you compair N/A 3.0 vs. 3.5 there is plenty of difference wouldn't you say. No dought that boosted 3.0's can do some sick ****, I agree with that cuz have seen it in person.

I have every bolt on but cams on my 5spd 3.0L, my car feels faster and moves faster than any G35 or 350Z that was traded in over at my shop. I work for Acura so I get alot of diff cars to drive. I am not thrilled at all with a 3.5L... I don't feel the same exicitement with a G35 as I do with a M3. I aint sayn my car is a supercar but it holds up pretty good from a 40MPH roll on to a EVO with 3" DP, exhaust, 22psi (19 is stock) and S-AFC. I know its the "baaad" motor to have but our 3.0s hold up just fine... I see alot more drivability problems with 3.5s than I do with 3.0s. I personally would not own a 350Z mostly cause of its looks and motor, I like the 300ZX better cause of the looks and engine.

Funny this came up now b/c i'm taking my car in tomorrow morning to get the 3rd gear notchiness looked at. It's the second time i'm taking it in. They said nothing was wrong last time, but it's been happening more & more lately. I'm trying 2 or 3 times to get in into 3rd.
So this is a possible new tranny issue? Hmm.... I wonder if I have to be a ***** to them b/c i'm sure they'll say it's just fine.

vq35 is just as reliable as the 2k-2k1 vq30 motors. plus the 300zx was to heavy but its looks were ok. i rather take a 350z. but i am taking my own path and sticking a vq35 in my 4th gen.

Clutch howling bulletin- people had clutches fixed under warranty.
Rattle noise on start up- alot of people have this problem
MAFs- alot of 5th gens have this problem but alot of em are 3.5Ls also.
3rd gear grinding- 6spd only
Tranny slipping - 3.5L- some 3.0s had problems too but not as many.
Hesitation on Acceleration - 3.5L
Controll arm recall
crank sensor recall
accelerator pedal stopper recall.
I never hear a 01 break unless its a MAF or coils, ocassional O2 sensor- which Nissans are famous for. I aint ever buying a new Nissan again, maybe a Titan thou.

This is a good story...

I was calling every dealer in northern IL looking for a new (Feb '03 at the time) 6-speed. I preferred blk/blk, but as long as it had leather & the HLSD i would buy it. There was not a single one in the WHOLE midwest. There were getting ready for the 6th gens to come out. (YUK!)
When I called up the Fergus Nissan dealer (Skokie), he said no luck, BUT he had just got a used '02 6-speed blk/blk - LOADED. I was like, no way!
So I raced my happy a$$ over there & fell in love immediatley. LOL
Had every option BUT the Navi, and it only had 1500 miles on it! Basically brand new. The guy that bought it before had to get rid of it b/c he got a company car.
I dont know if I overpaid, but after taxes, trading in my '94 and adding the 5yr/60K warranty, I paid $23K. (In Feb. '03) The car still brings a smile to my face every day.

Brozzza don't even think that you overpay for that ride. Car like that come around once in a great while. Also $23K is an exelent price for all of the optionce that came with it especially at that time. That's exactly what I'll be starting to look for hopefully very soon, wish me luck. Once again congrats, have fun with it, and take good care of it.

For sure, I check that section once in while. To tell you the truth, I would travel in the NW if I find the right car. There was a few not to long ago, exactly what I was looking for. I'm sure there will be plenty more in the near future.

It has already been done with a tranny, although the motor itself is a different story.

Point is that it can be done, although is it worth it $$$ wise or performance wise, big no no.
