Stock Head Unit
Stock Head Unit
Does the stock headunit for a 5th gen (non-bose) have a pre-amp outlet. I got some new speakers and I want to give the sound a little more kick. So I was thinking of just getting a small sub and amp, but nothing major. I don't really have the money to get another head unit, so I was just wondering if it was possible to do it with a stock head unit thanks

be careful. I tried to do the EXACT same thing, you know what happened? fried the stock clarion non-bose unit out of my 03. Literally, as soon as I finished all the wiring, and I plugged the antenna back in, smoke started coming out of the unit and it kept my jay-z cd! Just be very careful cuz our cars are real missions when it comes to the car audio. I was forced to buy an aftermarket hu, and it's not working properly anymore so i have no thumps. And to answer your question, no, there are no pre-amp outlets. You either have to do line level inputs on the amp or get the rca converter thing (i don't know how good the sound is on these things). I personally wouldnt be confident with myself fiddlign around with the stock unit so I'd just pay someone.
that the setup i'm running...stock non-bose hu and speakers with a 250w amp and 12" sub enclosed box. there are no rca outs on the stock hu, but you can use an rca out adaptor from the hu to the amp for better sound than running it from the speaker. as long as it's done right you won't have any probs. good luck!
