Word is that the 6th generation Maxima will get the Q45 base and have a V8! It will also likely have GPS navigation and possibly the HID option. The Altima will get the Maxima base/chassis and have a 3.5L 240 V6 (like the current Pathfinder/QX4. This will likely occur for 2003.

Yes a V8. Supposedly it will be the same V8 (4.1L) that is offered in the Q45. Source-Nissan Press release viewed at San Diego area dealer.

Don't know who you are...but what you have stated is just not true . Nissan has revealed that the 2002 Altima (to be revealed April 11th) is on it's own platform as of now. I also doubt that the Altima will get the 3.5L but we will see. The 6th Gen Maxima has already been confirmed by Nissan to be on the 2002 Altima platform and will probably debut as a 2004 model. The 5th Gen Max will get the 3.5L for 2002 and also get a mild refresh (new headlights/ taillights/ interior upgrades) like they did with the 1997 Max.

In reality you could look at it like this: The 6th Gen Max will be on the Altima platform..not the other way around. I have a lot of mixed emotions about this. Lets just wait and see how the 2002 Altima turns out to be in the next few days.
