I have a 2000 Maxima, and a couple of months ago it was running rough then it started to run fine on its own ,and the engine light came on at that time so since it started to run fine i unhooked the negative terminal from the battery to see if the engine light would go out and sure enough it did. now fastforward to this past week. my engine light came on but there were no signs of problems carwas running fine, i went out to the drive this morning and it will crank but it does not seem to be firing. my car used to make a sound when you would turn the key ,not all the way but just before the car would start , almost like you could here the an electric fuel pump . but now when i turn the key i here nothing if any of this helps. thanks but i am stumped

Have you checked for codes? Does the check engine light come one? Is it getting fuel or spark?

Does the security light turn OFF when the key is turned to on? (IF it doesn't turn off the car will not start)

I believe the noise you heard is the idle air control on the throttle body. I believe it is suppose to make the nose.
