What to look for when buying a 2k2 max?
With my 4th gen being most likely totaled I decided to do a small upgrade and go with the 6spd. I need to know what to look for when buying one. I already went through the FAQ and read the TSB sticky but didn't notice any serious problems. That is a good thing I guess. What do you guys recommend I do when buying one except the usual things, getting it checked out by a mechanic and such?

nothing much, no real engine problem. Just look out for 6sp tranny grind noise or make sure the auto tranny don't slap in gear hard 1-2 3-4 shifts. and check out the body for pre accidents.

I already saw you thread yesterday. Not sure I want to pay another $2k for shipping especially on a car I can't even test drive. It has a 6spd and HLSD which I want but I set a $18k max price for the car and I'll stick to it for now.

Watch for hesitation around 3-4k rpms. TSB for this. Also, check the ECM # for loss of power TSB. Make them do both before you buy if they apply. Also, if you don't want a rental, don't consider any with aftermarket heated seats. I found dozens of rentals that had leather and aftermarket heated seats added in to make them simulate the meridian & leather packages. The seats barely got warm and they lacked the heated wheel.
Look for drilled pedals if you want HLSD. Run it hard and shift into 3rd - it's the weakest link.
Be sure to do a carfax.

like all of the above said:
1. 3rd gear grind
2. Hesitation under 4k - bad MAF
3. Warped rotors, but that's a maintenance thing...if buying at a dealer and it shimmies, have them put some new rotors on it.
4. Clutch howl noise, here is a TSB for pressure plate replacement...
5. Replace stock tires ASAP, they are crap.

I've never driven in a 6spd so will I notice the hesistation under 4k rpm? Tranny related TSBs are covered under the 6yr/60k powertrain dealey right, but the MAF ones are not right?

Great, but how am I supposed to get financing through you? I'm only 19 and don't have $20k to give to you. That is my only problem. I have 3 or so local sellers that have good prices but I can't imagine I'd be able to buy from anyone but a dealer which sucks cause NONE of them have a 6spd.

No way, not even an option at this point. How much can it be to finance $15k? It really doesn't matter that much as I have no other bill to worry about for the next 3-4 years besides car payments and unsurance. From what I've been told I'm looking at around 7% APR which doesn't seem bad.

No way on that one either. It's a 6spd max or I'll have to say bye to Nissan. The 2k2 altima is surprisingly more expensive and the cheap interior is another reason I don't want one. I don't spend a lot of time in city traffic as I'll be going to school in Glendale Heights. Nothing but smooth sailing on Grand. If it's no hassle to you, could you keep me informed if you ever see a 6spd for sale? I already have some others who were great enough to offer to do that for me. With help from all of you it'll make things easier and faster.

Financing is the easy part, i am at $294 monthly.... but insurance is the killer... I am 20yrs old, with a clean driving record (no tickets/accidents) and i am getting slammed with $697 a month for insurance. A MONTH. so unless you can deal with that, or you know a cheaper price somewhere, consider another car or pay for it in cash. (i have called 60+ insurance companys, and that was the best i could find.)
good luck with the new car search though, you will love it, I know i love mine.

well, duh, thats why man, your on your parents policy. I am doing everything by myself, my parents don't help me out with anything. yeah, it stinks, but it makes me feel good at the same time.

If you don't mind me asking, how much was your car? how much did you put down for the down payment? what APR did you get? how many years to pay it off? Wanna see what kind of job I'll need to find.

1) Try and get a used auto loan from your local bank/credit union. Because it is used they will need to see the car. Explain to them that its in Hawaii and if pictures will do. If they say yes, I will take what ever pictures you need, if my website isn't good enough. If they won't give you the loan without actually seeing the car do #2
2) You can get a personal/signature loan. They don't care what you use the money for so this is another way. Since the interest on personal loans are usually higher than auto loans, when you get the car, you can refinance to a auto loan to get the lower rate. And since you'll have the car, they can see it and take whatever pictures.
Depending on your credit, you may need a co-signer or guarantor. Maybe your parents or someone can help you out with that.
Trust me, its not that hard to do and a lot of people do it. At my credit union, we do it all the time... its no biggie.
Let me know if you need any help.

No, I don't care. The price i paid was $20,190, i put down about $8,700, i got an APR of 7.2%, and i have a 5 year loan. :ekk: The price of the car was rather good since it only had 12,000 miles on it when i picked it up, and has every option except navi.
Now with just the intrest alone, i will be shelling out an extra $3,500. it sucks. that, plus taxes, registration, ($1000) i will end up paying about $25-26k for my car. but I am happy with it, especially now since i have some mods on it. (i didn't figure mods into my budget, but o well)
So my car cost me about $1,000 a month, so i have just enough money each month to pay the car/insurance, food, cigerettes, gas, ect. i ahve like $5 for my self. *twirls finger* wooo hooo. lol
it was worth it when i fist got it, but the new factor is wearing off, and now i am looking back on it... oh well... once i turn 21, it will get better.

I tried this to get my car, and didn't work. not only did i need a co-signer, but they kept on asking me what i needed the money for.... damn. off the top of my head i am like... "to buy something." lol. "like what?" they ask. i say.. "well, not really buy something, more like to pay off all my credit cards." so then they went on to check all the balences of my credit cards!!! damn. then i just told them it was for a car, and they told me id have to get full coverage, so i just decided to go with nissans credit union. (i wanted to avoid a car loan because you need full coverage with it.)

It actually looks like my folks are willing to borrow me the money up front and let me pay it off instead of going to the bank. No rates no nothing. I'm kinda worried cause if that happens all the money I make goes to them right away instead of keeping some for myself.
