Installed suspension 4 days ago. Took it to a shop to have it done. I asked them to install the stock spring isolators with the H&Rs.

Do the stock rear springs include spring isolators?
I notice that the installer didn't install them on the rears.

I'm hearing some slight creeking noises over moderate bumps.. not sure if this is the reason for the noise? Anyone chime in a thought or 2?

currently set to 1F/2R.

i think that might be the problem because i used h&r on my old car with out the isolaters and it was creeking all the time so i put them back on an problem solved.... but then again it was a 1990 Isuzu Impulse so im not really sure if the max had them back there or not

Anyone know exactly? the shop actually wrapped the spring isolators on, but it doesn't actually wrap to the end of the spring bottom. The spring is just sitting on the bottom perch without any isolator on BOTH rear sides.

.. Now i'm questioning if shop ripped the rear isolators when they were removing them and just glued on what they could.. but to do it on both sides evenly and not bother to wrap it to the end of the spring??

(basically, it's like a spring isolator wrapped 1/2 way down the spring)

The isolator should only cover the bottom coil. If there isn't an isolator on the back springs, then that's likely the root of your problem.

Thanks housecor.. currently, the isolator on the rear springs are covering the next coil up ?! (what were they thinking of?!).. anyway, i'm bringing it back for them to correct this Thurs.

hey guys.. does this sound right? Quoted from my install guy.. :
"The spring isolators are used for the "dead coils" (the coils that get compressed when the car is off the hoist and are touching). They don't usually go right to the end of the spring. ?

Please let me know.. as my knowledge of springs/isolators isn't up to par..

I asked my installer about the isolators to. He said that the sound is not caused by the isolators missing or loose. He was right, the sound went away and didn't come back.

I've never heard of such a thing. The isolator on the OEM springs is attached with goop to the bottom coil to make sure it doesn't slide from this location. The isolator assures that the spring doesn't rub directly on the perch and make metal on metal noise. The spring itself is coated to avoid noises from the coils rubbing against each other when compressed, so the idea of putting it on the "dead coil" doesn't add up. I'd highly recommend getting the isolator installed on the bottom coil - it's likely the root of your noise.

I realize this doesn't help, but aside from the noise, how's the ride? I had Tein Stechs and GR2s a while back and hated the ride and went back to stock suspension. How does your setup feel? I really want a lowered stance with a stock like ride.

Thanks Housecor.. I agree, I can see this 'dead-coil' thing happening if i had progressive springs. But the H&R Sports are not (from my understanding).

I'm taking it back tomorrow to the shop, so they'll have a look at. For comfort sake, i'd like to have the isolator on the bottom coil, as it makes more sense.

hey John,

The H&Rs don't exactly "lower" it like other springs, but does lessen the 4x4 gap. Just how i like it The ride..to me, it's smoother than stock and feels very similiar to the stock SE ride or set it so it rides like a GLE (1F/1R).

I love having the ability to adjust the dampening when I need it, that's why I went with illuminas as I wasn't sure if I'd like the setup with the Blues. My only gripe (not ride related), is if they had a '****' instead of a 'slot' for adjustments, i'd be happier.
