Towing a Boat

I'm looking at picking up a small jet boat which I would like to tow with my Max... The weight is about 1,600 pounds which exeeds the tow rating by 600 pounds. I find it hard to believe that the Maxima is only capable of towing the same as any old 4 banger. Anyone have any experience with towing??

Thanks,

Chris

My dad's been towing a boat and trailer that weigh close to 3000lb with his ford contour for about 5? years now with absolutley no problems. The trailer has electric brakes, and dad added a transmission cooler. I believe that auto manufacturers add a considerable amount of safety margin when it comes to rating just about anything. In addition, towing is probably rated with a fully loaded car in mind - passangers and all. Just make sure the brakes are in a proper working order and if your Max is an auto, I recommend a tranny cooler.

Thanks. I guess I failed to mention that I also have a manual transmission...I guess that could also be an issue...
