400+hp

I have been seriously considering whether to tune my car or not. If I do, I will have to go all out, turbo and all. It got me thinking though. Is it feasable for a fwd sedan as large as the Maxima to handle 400+hp?

Possibly feasible, but who in their right mind would want one? There is an Ian on nwmaxima.com who has 338 hp from his boosted 4th Gen in Seattle.

um, in that case, why don't you buy a car that's MEANT to cr@p on people? Supra TT, vette (or any american pushrod), 300zx TT, rx7 turbo, etc....

Maxima is a sport sedan. NOT a sportscar. (sorry to burst anyone's bubble)
The maxima excels in places other cars can't...
1.) practicality
2.) year round driveablility
3.) reliability
4.) luxury/aesthetics
5.) performance (relatively speaking/to an certain extent)

yeah if youre not happy with the power the 3.5 is deliverin already might as well just trade it in and get a 911 turbo or something...to turbocharge our max and have a transmission that will hold...im thinkin youre goin to have to spend in upwards of 15g's i rather sell the car use that extra 15g's and just buy a better car

Go to the Super/turbo charged forums here, Theres a couple people with 400+hp im pretty sure. Ask around there about practicality. But be ready to shell out some $$. Im content with oneday having my car be around 350ish.

First they is alway people that say this is a family car it's not meant for that if you want a sports or "fast car" get a supra, vette etc. I say oh really so my big car can't handle that power and be a FWD. I show people the Regal's and Grand prix that are running in the 10's and 11's and then you tell me that a heavy car can't do it again and I'll give you a .

P.S. Everyone needs to stop doubting are cars. People on this forum that I see talking about how our cars are not for 11's or 12's sec speed and stuff. Are the same ones starting up the post about how they just sold there Max and got something new.

Can it be done, yes. Is it worth it, no. Not for me anyway. Remember, the more power you got the less reliable your car becomes.

if you turbo your 5.5 Gen, I think you'll be the first...

I've been thinking about it myself...

but I was assuming I'd need at least $10,000 to do it..

not a wise way to spend my money..

Its all about personal preference and what you like. To each his own as the saying goes. Why not stand out from the crowd and make a monster out of a fwd sedan.

I used to have part time 400hp and nearly 500tq and let me tell you its a lot of fun picking on people nto expecting it. I know my car only ran a measly 12.9 with all that power but my transmission was hurting bad then. I was beating up on cars with better gearing that were trapping 109+ and it was a lot of fun. SC'ed 350z's, built LT1's, a few bolt on C5's man I miss it

If you got the money why not?... smoking the tires at 50mph is pretty fun

Contact Speed Force Racing in San Diego, CA. They will do whatever you want.

BTW, maximas are NOT big or heavy cars. About the same weight as many sports cars. They're actually pretty light for their size. And 350whp on low boost is delicious!
that engine bay look familiar, I'd like to see somemore pics if possible

With enough money anything is possible, but a fwd platform is not a good one for that much power. Talk about wheelspin!

Yeah, see my maxima was a gift and it now has only 22,000miles on it. I figure it has a nice engine so why not keep the car. The maxima is here to stay. Now I must save...

why don't you just try getting to 250whp first and see how you like it? Why aim at a magic 400 hp that you just made up when you are still stock?

Get headers, intake, exhaust, cams, ECU upgrade, and intake manifold and you'll be surprised how many cars you can take just with those mods. THe 3.5 maxima IMO is a high 12 sec/low 13 sec car NA with a good 6spd driver.

For all those people out there in the org. who doubt the power of the max, why! Vettes, TT Supra or the likes are fast but beating a fast car in a Vette, isn't very rewarding to me everybody expects them to be fast. But how big would your smile be if you beat a Vette in a 4door V6 max!(Its not as hard to do as some of the posts here made it sound) Its a good feeling. However with the added power, just like anycar, comes more problems and more money spent. I say go for it. 350+hp in a maxima, Who cant have fun with that!

There is even a guys that output near 500HP, if I'm not mistaken there was a guy running 11.8 sec on the 1/4 miles
not bad for a grocery getter.

Cheers

I've had a 547WHP SR20DET in a 2300lb Sentra SE-R. It had alot of goodies in it... just a refference racing R1s from a 70MPH roll was just awesome. I only had that car for 2 weeks after the engine was in the car and I sold it without the engine parted out the turbo kit. Engine had Nismo internals from Japan, turbo was a T3/TO4E Super 60 comp with a .82 AR Stg V wheel with a ball bearing center section. Turbo lag was there but the engine was just fine till the turbo kicked in. This is with the tach being 500RPM off, and redline of 8K RPMs in 5th gear doing a roll on with a R1 on a deserted highway.

Doing Vette runs with only 10 psi was fun, I ran up to 27psi on C16 on the street. I once rolled a ZO6 from a 40MPH roll with my AVC-R set up to hold boost low at that MPH- 10psi and then slowly up it as RPMs climb, in 3rd I hit the high button to 22psi on the street and backed off around 170MPH with good quarter mile or so on him Thats all in a 93 Sentra shoe box.... sorry now I go off to my hiding place

I don't see anything wrong with tuning your car to 400hp. It would be cool. Eveyrone has their own opinion. So if you want to do it than do it don't pay attention to anyone elses opinions.

My friend has a 97 limited edition turbo supra 650 hp to the wheels. It a very sweet car but its no fun everybody knows its stupid fast no one will race it and when they do and he wins its no big deal its expected. IMO. its much funnier to make a "slow" car fast. A 400 hp. Max from a roll would be sick go for it sleepers rule.
