Is it true that the 2002 Maxima is supposed to get the 3.5L VQ engine thats in the new pathfinders. i heard that also it would make 265hp, and it may be saved for a Maxima SE-R version, or just for the SE and not GXE/GLE. Can anyone confirm this?

I dont think ANYONE can confirm that

until one is sitting on the dealer lot. There are still some questions about the 2001 (limited slip diff feature). That sounds pretty close to the most widely accepted rumors tho. Nissan never really confirms or denies anything until they have them on the ship headed here it seems.

I think they're waiting til 2003

I checked Nissan's websites, and found some info on their future R&D plans for the Maxima. Apparently, the engine upgrade will not happen until 2003, and will supposedly be across the board (and yes it will supposedly upgrade the HP to 265 or so). I have heard nothing about the SE-R, but that would be sweet though.

If we REALLY want to get the straight poop, we could get a caravan together and drive to the factory in Tennessee...

Hmmm. That's decidedly a tougher drive. I'd get good traction on the seafloor, but I don't think the moisture seals are tested to anything above 50 psi.

No pics of by new baby yet, but having fun in Photoshop and Flash!

Actually, from their PR statements, it sounds like they might be moving the Maxima platform to Tennessee in 2003. That'd be a cool place to have a Maxus event if they're actually made there!

Yah, I kept getting status reports from the dealership on my car. "They confirmed the order" or "it's being built right now" or "it's on the train from Tennessee". Maybe we SHOULD do the caravan. I think it's a brilliant idea for a Maxima meet to have a national gathering AT the new factory. See if we can arrange for a tour, 'n' stuff......
