I was washing my car yesterday and noticed that the stock 17's are getting stained or something. Has anyone tried wax or something?

I plan on waxing mine this weekend, along with the rest of the car, if I receive my Zaino stuff.

Are you talking about the inside of the rim or the outside? Will wax work on the inside? I think the inside has grooves, like on a record.

The outside

I do not have to effort or the time to wast cleaning the inside. I will pressure wash the inside that is about it though.

I wax mine...

Makes it easier to clean the brake dust off when I wash.

A coat of Meguiars #26 hi-tech yellow works great on the rims.....Makes cleaning the outside really easy.

Some acidic cleaners can do this. Be careful what you're putting on the wheels. I've ruined a set of wheels before at a cheap-*** car wash with some kind of acidic "wheel cleaner"

never again!!

Mothers makes a wax especially for aluminum wheels. It makes removing the brake dust a piece of cake.

I use a Zymol protectant that works great on the Maxima...

I wax my 17" rims every time I wax the car. Makes cleaning a snap and they look really good.

A lesson learned recently: I purchased the Meguires Endurance high gloss gel. I must have overapplied (didn't look that way) because after driving around a little while, I ended up with the stuff splatted on the sides of my car. thought I'd never get it rubbed out.

So, be conservative in applying the gel if you choose to go that route. It looks great...but use in moderation!
