2002 Maxima HID's stolen

Hey guys this is my first post...****ty that I have to discuss something like this. The right driver side hid on my sister's 2002 maxima was just stolen. The whole headlight enclosure is gone. Her husband tried chasing down the teenager that took it to no avail. I would just like to know how much something like this is going to be to replace. I know its a big issue since she received mail about theft to the lenses last year and never went in to get the new antitheft measures installed. I hope others can chime in if this has happened to them before. And before anyone gets upset I could not use the search option as it seems to be disabled. Thanks guys

Will cost you 500+ for each. What some people are doing is installing 01 halogen headlights on their 02 Maxima

You can always install aftermarket projector headlights.

From what has happened to people on the org. Pplz with data dot had their HIDS jacked. It's just harder to steal.. but it still can be done. Bottom line is, if they want your HIDS.. they will get it one way or another. But like Ammi said, if u want something cheap and that looks good.. get the 01 projector headlights.. god forbid if they steal those, atleast its only costin u 300. LOL. It's good to be prepared for the worst.. cuz u never know man.

PS- you can also be like me and have HIDS indisguise. I put HIDS on my 2k headlight housing.

Yea i know, but once it gets here (it will sooner or later). I'll be the first one to ***** out the dealers around here because none of them sell the theft-deterrent kit.

The HID theft problem has spread to San Fran and Miami so, Chicago (another major urban area) cant be too far off.

As for replacing your 2k2 HIDs with Y2k/2k1 Halogens, dont do it. This dude at my company has that same arrangement and the gap looks horrendous. However, I would do the Projectors.

instylz, did this happen in Woodbridge? Was the Data Dots/Bracket TSB done? The black market for Maxima/TL HIDs is BIG right now. The next time you see some riced out POS in Perth Amboy (notably half the cars in PA are rice) with HIDs, you'll now know where it came from. (Of course they'll swear that 1973 Starlets came with OEM HIDs ) BTW, the search function is perpetually down.

This sucks! Sorry for the long post (it's my first one here). I "test drove" a 2002 Maxima SE in Phoenix at the 2002 SE-R Club of America Convention. I had the car on track as well I fell in love with the car (particularly the Xenons) My fiancee wants a new car and I started casually looking. A friend found a 2002 with 39k miles that he could get a deal for me for $16.8k. I've got a deposit down and have done some research and it seems that headlight theft is still a big issue. I thought (well hoped) that it had died down since last year and, from the news reports that I paid attention to, it seemed that the anti-theft kit had solved the problem. Apparently it hasn't? Anyone here have the kit? Living in Jersey City (parking deck but still have to go food shopping, etc) I plan on purchasing the kit (Courtesy Nissan... maybe it's different than the free kit available at most Nissan dealers?)

http://alnk.org/dingyturtle

I was also planning on taking a look at fabricating something if it really came down to it. If it meant finding a machine shop to make something and paying some extra money to hold onto the HID's, I'd pay it! I hate thievery! I've had my SE-R broken into 3 times in 9 years (hmmmm... I'm about due ;(

I'm going to be buying the car in the next month or so but it'll sit out in PA at my friend's house probably till around Christmas since I don't want to pay the additional insurance on a 3rd car just yet.

I'd also be interested in hearing about installation of HID's in a 2001 housing... how hard it is, pictures, directions, etc? Anything stealthy would work for me. Even links to other projector or HID headlights that wouldn't be as desirable. I also thought of just plain halogens but those have the same housing (correct?) Therefore, they'd LOOK just as desirable to thieves till they pull your front end apart to find no ballast. At that point you're screwed anyway

TIA and look forward to chatting with you guys!

Your lights would be gone in 1 day if not hours in jersey city. It had the second highest rate of hid theft in jersey. Newark was number 1 I think. Even if you have the halogens with HIDS in them, as soon as you turn on the lights, all eyes are on you. If you do get the max, switch to the halgons immediately and sell the hids...or just keep them if you ever decide to move to an area where thievery is less likely. I'm hoping that the data dot/brackets will help deter, i've seen many cases where there was an attempt, they got the lights out, but could not get the ballast, so maybe the thieves will catch on and think twice about hitting the max. Wishful thinking on my part

Hello everyone.

This is my first post.

I bought a 2000 GLE a couple weeks ago. I’m really happy with it. Especially considering that I previously had a 1997 Pontiac Sunfire GT.

A GT Sunfire is like driving a golf cart with a spoiler.

So I love the Maxima.

But after browsing around the web, I learned about all the problems with the 02-03 Maxima headlights.

Does my 2000 have the same problem? Or is theft of those lights less prevalent?

I live in Hoboken, NJ which is about 5-minutes from Jersey City. It’s probably one of the worst places to own a car.

We’re talking Kandahar territory.

Thanks,

Clyde.

If you don't have HIDs, you don't have to worry about people stealing your headlights. HIDs are very expensive and thugs in NJ steal them and sell them on EBay. You only have to worry about your whole car being stolen...

I say don't do the data dots because if the theif gets frustrated he'll do even more damage to the car....just let them take it and let the insurance cover it.

I have never had mine stolen (knock on wood) but i know someone who had his stolen 4 times.

Thanks.

That’s good news for me. And just awful news for a lot of people. That blows InStylz.

As far as complete car theft, I picked up both the Unbreakable Brake Club and one of those steering wheel Clubs with the hopes that it might give a slight nudge for the Hoboken car thieves to look elsewhere.

Especially since I’m parked snuggly between a BMW 3 and Lexus IS.

Although, it’s not entirely comforting considering that a guy a few spots down from me had his Maxima stolen last summer.

He ended up buying a new Z which he parks on the street.

How can you park a new Z on the street?

Take care,

Clyde.

The Z has nothing to be stolen for...unless they want plastic.
