picked up 00 Max. has stalling issue.
hey
recently picked up a 00 Maxima 5speed. Car is stalling out in netural sometimes and the only code the ECU is throwing is P0141 O2 sensor bank #1 sensor#2. also throwing code P0500 Vehicle speed sensor problem. can anyone point me in the right direction on which of the 4 O2s need to be replaced? thanks

I will check the ESM when I get home just to verify which bank is which..as I always get confused. One #2 is in the Elbow of the Ypipe...the other is about 12-15 inches downstream and a lot easier to get at.

cool thanks.
kno anyone that has experinced the stalling issue? im juss wondering if it could be something else and not the O2.

Hmm, I checked all the TSB bank I personally had access to, but could not find one specific to stalling and and the 5th gen. Hopefully someone else might know.
As for the O2, might as well fix it while you are there, or get some O2 elims as the defunct O2's will goof up your mileage. I just replaced these two O2 on mine and got even more mileage back...Took a trip the other day, all highway and got 31 MPG...I was very happy. Still only get sub 20's for city...but my right foot contributes to that problem.

bank 1 sensor 2 means that it is a downstream O2... as long as the upstream sensors are good, the downstream ones are only used to monitor precat operation for emissions. The switching time on them is so slow that they are not used under normal operation. I doubt that one O2 sensor is causing the stall...

the two o2's downstream on that particular 5th gen you have is a common phenomenon Don't worry, like UMD said.. its only for monitoring purposes. The speed sensor is cause the car used to have a RSM on it
as for the stalling issue, its usually only seen on auto to 5spd swaps, which we both know is not the case here. However, try doing the following and I have a feeling it might go away:
1. take off that crank case filter and put a stock intake or berk intake or something similar on
2. clean the TB when the intake is off

Fuel Cut TSB is what you're lookin for. I don't hav ea link. Caused 5-speed 00-01 Maxes to stall when shifted into neutral
Some others have reported MAF failures as a common cause of the stalling, as well.
I'll also recommend at this time that all 6 coils be replaced as well as all 4 O2 Sensors. There's a TSB for erroneous O2 sensor DTCs but I don't recall if it applies to 00-01. O2 Sensors should be replaced at 60k or so at any rate.
Vehicle speed sensor -- no experience here, only on Mopar, which uses 2 (input and output), both located on the transmission. Not to be confused with a Wheel Speed Sensor which is an ABS part (a reluctor ring on the wheel hub that tells the comp. how fast each wheel is travelling)

Woa.... the ECU has what its called "correction for sensor aging effect" I worked at Nissan when the 5th gen just came out and we where introduced to the new 32bit technology with the reflashing of the ECU. U don't need to repleace the oxygen sensors at 60K miles. I had one 02 sensor HEATER fail on me internally- basically the coil fell apart inside the 02 sensor that heats it up. I have 90K miles on the other 3 of my 4 O2 sensors. To make sure you have 4 O2 sensors open the hood and see if it says THIS VEHICLE CONFIRMS TO THE 200X CALIFORNIA EMISSIONS LAW. It should be a white sticker- largest one under the hood. Also a give away is the 4 connectors right infront of the valve cover. If you have a AE- the cover, covers up the plugs. Thse plugs indicate that the car is a Cali emissions vehicle. Rear Bank is always -# 1 bank on a Nissan. The front bank is Bank 2, and the 2nd 02 sensor is the one behind the precat ( on a Cali model). The code can be eliminated by buying a www.02simulator.com. I have removed all 3 cats off my Cali 01 GXE and had codes all over the place. Now I can pass emissions due to our state only checking the ECU for codes on OBDII cars. This means no snifter. My car would kill ya if it was runing in a closed 1 car garage with ya in it. It reaaaally stinks and shoots out 3 foot flames out the tail pipe sometimes I need to hook up my WideBand to it and see if my A/F is wrong... looks like its time to go and hook up the S-AFCII.
