2000 Gauges and LEDs ???

I have a 2000 SE with the white gauge faces...I have seen many different setups I like on the org especially with the 4th gen using 194 wedge LED blue bulbs from superbrightleds.com . . . I have also seen this setup with a 2000 GLE that looked good but not as good...anyways has anybody done LED swap with the SE gauge face bc i wanna see what it looks like at night...Does anybody have suggestions for a face swap before you put in LED's or any ideas of how to make it look nice???

I remember seeing this on a post that I submitted a few weeks ago...here's the link http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/305093/5

The gauges aren't SE but it gives you a general idea...

That's a pic of y gauges. They could look 100x better if I had clear needles, because the orange doesn't transfer light as well. Also if I would have used a Dremel and a wheel to chop the tops off properly it would definatley disperse the light better. Soon I'll get back on this and get it looking perfect. Also the pic does kind of look funny, but looking at it directly the colors are not as blotchy.

Thanks, I got them from CustomMaxima.Com when they were getting rid of them from their stock. It was about $70 shipped. Anyone able to change their needles out on the gauges?

this worked for me i have a 2k SE with CLEAR needles and indiglows

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....INDIGLO+NEEDLE

This procedure works on virtually all Nissan meters which has a digital trip/odo. If you have the analog/mechanical trip/odo, don't bother reading.

Background:
Nissan meters w/ the digital trip/odo has a built-in diagnostics function that will automatically position the needles at a fixed location for all 4 gauges (tach, speedo, fuel, temp). This location is useful for needle re-calibration.

Here's what you have to do:
Before removing your needles, you need to mark this 'fixed' location by:
a) Turning key to OFF
b) While holding the trip/odo reset button down, turn the key to IGN position & hold the button down for at least 0.8 seconds. (1-2 seconds is perfectly fine - no need to rush).
c) After that, push the button 3 times in the next few seconds (you'll have about 7 seconds to do this).

You will notice that all segments of the trip/odo will be illuminated.

NOW, when you push and hold the button, the needles will move to a fixed (calibration) mode. You can mark this spot, then safely remove the needles. As long as you're in the diagnostics mode, the needles will move to the set location when you hold the button down & return to zero position when you release the button. You can do this over & over until you are comfortable with your markings.

(To leave the diagnostics, you can simply turn the key back to the OFF position).

Now, you can remove the needles by gently prying them off.

To reinstall the needles, simply go back in to the diagnostics using the steps outlined above. Move the needle base to the 'fixed' location by holding the button down and setting the needles to the location you marked. Then, just push the needles in gently.

If you had removed the needles before marking this set location, you're basically screwed.

Amended Version

Here's what you have to do:
Before removing your needles, you need to mark this 'fixed' location by:
AA) Turn the ignition to ON and change the digitial odo to trip A or B
a) Turning key to OFF
b) While holding the trip/odo reset button down, turn the key to IGN position & hold the button down for at least 0.8 seconds. (1-2 seconds is perfectly fine - no need to rush).
B1) the trip counter will reset to 000.0 (NOT the normal 0.0)
c) After that, push the button 3 times in the next few seconds (you'll have about 7 seconds to do this).

You will notice that all segments of the trip/odo will be illuminated.

NOW, when you push and hold the button, the needles will move to a fixed (calibration) mode. The feul gage may take up to a minute to reach its calibration spot You can mark this spot, then safely remove the needles. As long as you're in the diagnostics mode, the needles will move to the set location when you hold the button down & return to zero position when you release the button. You can do this over & over until you are comfortable with your markings.

(To leave the diagnostics, you can simply turn the key back to the OFF position).

That was it. I got my needles bouncing

1. Pull the needle stops out first.
2. Turn the needle counterclockwise until you feel resistence in the needle
3. Mark that point, that is the calibration point.
4. Then, keep turning them the same way about 5 revolutions
5. Then, after that, keep turning them and slightly start pulling up on them.
6. After a few more turns, the needle will come off.

You have to be careful not to pull that shaft out, as you know. If you do, you are screwed. Once you get your faces on or whatever:

1. Put the needle back on, on the exact same point that you marked as the calibration point.
2. Turn the needle clockwise and install the needle rest back on.

damn it, i think im screwed . ur method explains how to safely take out the needles by marking them, etc. however, i (well my bro in law) took out the needles without marking them, and when i tried to fix it by putting it back in, the tachometer and temp gauge wont move whatsoever, and the speedometer is off by 5 mph...curiously, the fuel gauge is perfect..

They are more like 74 bulbs. I had bought some super-bright 74 bulbs of Ebay, and when I installed them in the guages, they were worse than the stock ones. The stock ones were brighter. The only way to make our guages brighter, is to go indiglo (the reverse ones).
